What did you do in the Apiary today?

Snowing down here this morning - the panic amongst the locals is evident - they are not used to seeing this white stuff ! The ground is too warm and it is not settling so not much of a problem..

    Honey storage

I'm sat with a dressing gown over my jeans and fleece and a woolly hat ! Heating is banned before 6.00pm and after 10.00pm ... by order of the management ... need to save the £300 we needed to donate to fill the Starmer hole ...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I hope Stan is well insured - I'm banned from working at height these days (or at least not getting caught up a ladder !).

    Runny honey/crystallisation

I don't like to brag but it is the best tasting honey on the planet - but I'm far too modest to make it known !

    Runny honey/crystallisation

MIne has already set ... it usually does - mine is a medium/dark honey - no OSR within flying distance so just run of the mill honey.

    Hive insulation

There have been problems with sprayed polyurethane foam used as permanent buoyancy in small boats - in some cases where the cavities were formed such that water could get into them the polyurethane foam actually did soak up water over a period of time. The added weight not only negated any...

Some help on what has happened here

i thought he said Glyphosphate.... I don't think he said Roundup - is there a new formulation for Roundup then ?

Selling, we are doing it wrong.

As you probably appreciate, from my name, our ancestry is Scottish - we came down with the young pretender in the '45 ... and then returned to Derbyshire when it was all over - obviously seeing the more favourable climate and income opportunities preferable to the hardships of the Scottish...

    Hive insulation

Aluminium tape to cover the cut edges and the whole lot given a couple of coats of Garden Shades renders PIR almost totally weatherproof - my solar wax melter stood outside for 10 years without deteriorating - what finished it was me thinking I could use it with steam as a wax melter - big mistake !

    Summer review

According to our national news tonight we are dithering a bit rather than following America's lead but this may be because our new Prime Minister wants to be the one to announce it ! I hope we do ... The ability to knock out the source of some of the drones and missiles being launched against...

Some help on what has happened here

Good ... well done. You are probably overkilling it doing a sulphur burn monthly - if they are well strapped up and sealed then there will be no way the wax moth can get at them and a sulphur burn will kill any moths, larvae and eggs .. a couple of burns three weeks apart should render then...

Some help on what has happened here

There's a few 'early years lessons' you have learnt here ... Don't beat yourself up about it, it's disheartening and costly but what you have to do now is learn the lessons, make a note for the future and move on - fresh start next year: 1. There is nothing wrong with either OA by sublimation...

    Hungry bees

Terrible idea .. with 100 bees it's pretty much doomed .. dummied down, well insulated and fed - 10 % chance but they might make it through.

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

I have a Katsu compact router it's a Makita look alike but has been very reliable ( I use it mounted hoizontally for decorative routing on my woodturnings) but I;ve just found this on ebay ... Router Lift Base I may be tempted to buy one and replace the existing set up in my router table...

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

From experience .. the important bit of the router table is the router table insert and you want one that allows you to adjust the rise and fall of the router from above the table, it is very frustrating having to take the insert out to have to adjust the depth of cut or change the cutter in the...

Selling, we are doing it wrong.

Well it was a Channel 4 documentary ... as usual it only explores one side and in this case it was the side of those who would prefer to see a Republic and I admit I am not in favour of a replublic. The Crown Estate (it does not all belong to Charles and William) own some of the most...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Where is Derek Mitchell when you need him ? I hear he's looking for his next bee related project ! There's probably a PhD student out there looking for a thesis ... trouble is finding funding for something with little commercial value these days ... hard sell.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Interesting .. mine have been flying quite a lot but I was hefting this evening and still nailed to the ground - they are 14 x 12 Paynes polys with insulation above the crownboard. Mine are small black bees from Ceri Morgan queens in West Wales and I do find them very frugal .. if yours feel...
