    Cotoneaster bee haven

Its not a coteneaster because coteneaster normally has alternate leaves and is often evergreen. Its not a coralberry either because the flowers are different. Her indoors with her Horticultural Diplomas says its a type honeysuckle because of its opposing leaves and trumpet like flowers. Yes its...

    Interesting registration

Back in the 1970's 505 EXY was on a pink Jaguar driven by a Walthamstow Market trader. Its on a 2019 Range Rover these days. More recently around 2005 I saw G8 TOP in a 24 hour petrol station in Waltham Cross, the aging super model driver was unsuccesful in procuring alcohol outside licensing...

    Black bees in the garden

Sighted some all black bees gathering pollen in the garden today, just two or three of them. Never seen them all black before and wondering what they are? The smaller dusty looking honey bees didn't seem to like them and attempts seem to be made to chase them off.

    Computer microscope

If its for hobby use I took a punt on a very cheap <£10 USB LED x500 zoom microscope on eBay for looking at postage stamps. Two years on and I'm still using it, yes its cheap, yes its plastic, but it does show excellent close up details of my postage stamps on my PC screen as well complete...

    Machineway corrosion

The main ingredient of most of these spray on water dispersant, penetrating, anti corrosion or maintenance spray products is paraffin which puts my price cap for such products at <£1 per 100 ml and some of the lesser advertised, lesser hyped brands can be had for 50p per 100ml. If you're...

    Machineway corrosion

Just to be clear I wasn't suggesting that WD40 would solve your condensation problem, it's good but its not that good ;-) What it will do and will do well is prevent corrosion of your tools. A goodly spray of WD40, other maintenance sprays are available, and a wipe down with an oily rag and the...

    Weighing hives

Say what, how does that work??

    Test run

I've now seen a good few wasps around the raspberry canes now including a big queen wasp. I don't have any hives yet was just using a cupful of syrup, to get the garden visitors to stay still long enough for some photographs. Took about 200. After the edit I'd deleted about 180 of them and of...

    Table Saw

    What no band saw??

    Test run

I see now but I need a better camera So I was trying to photo the visitors to our raspberry canes. Problem they wouldn't stay still for long enough or I was too slow. Solution sprinkle some 2:1 sugar:water syrup on the leaves and they practically pose for the photo.

    Table Saw

That's very tempting for a hobby table saw, could be tempted to replace our 1970's table which has too many failing plastic pieces. May too be worth taking a punt on the spare blade set at £7.99 https://www.aldi.co.uk/circular-table-saw-blades-set-250mm/p/096846239139301

Much honey bee activity in the garden today

Back in the garden and there are just bumble bees on the raspberry canes this morning then again its a little cold and breezy at the moment. I'm guessing they'll get busier around lunch time once it's warmed up a little.

Much honey bee activity in the garden today

I've had a little laugh too. Some years ago a friend immigrated to Australia and I'm was sure she moved to a place called Kernow. Having revisited an old address book turns out the street she lived on was called Kernow Place and it was in a town called Kapunda. Silly old me

Thank you, that's a most kind offer but I fear you're in Australia and I'm in the UK meaning there will be a number of export/import problems.

Much honey bee activity in the garden today

Tuesday 9th October and there is less activity than there was a day or two ago but they're still busy on the raspberry canes. The redcurrant and blackcurrant canes are also receiving a share of the attention. I spent the morning checking the plantsman catalogues and I've pencilled in the garden...
