    Thanks for replies, no swarm was caught 20 miles away from our apairy and our hive has a good strong queen seen at every inspection so far. Will remember to put a queen excluder under the brood box next time!

    We caught a swarm last thursday and hived it around 8pm into a 14x12 hive. This was the first time we had done this and not everything went according to plan but in the end we were happy that they were all in the hive. We checked the hive Friday morning and all seemed ok with lots of workers...

    I've got a swarm

    we did exactly the same, caught a good swarm on Thurs pm, was in the hive yesterday, gone today, have learnt from my mistake, will now put QX under brood box for a while.

    We have exactly the same and i started to panic too but as you say there is still plenty of worker brood. Glad i am not the only one worried.

    Hi, i use liquid smoke for my fairly placid bees, it works but i don't think it is as effective as proper smoke, but works well if you have calm tempered bees

    Becareful with anticoagulant poisons as other predators such at birds of prey etc can get 2ndry posioning and haemorrhage to death. Traps are better.

    Liquid Smoke.

    I use liquid smoke, and works perfectly well, cautious about starting fires with a proper smoker as in a country park with very dry grass.
