Is this the worst May since time began...

Hopefully things will pick up now - the start of June and decent weather forecast later in the week. Fingers crossed... Thanks to all who posted :)

Hey no probs - maybe it was the 'top secret location' part that looked sneaky! Even if it was your opinion, I would still respect that anyway :)

Is this the worst May since time began...

That's fine and your opinion, which I fully respect. The bait hive is actually in my parents garden, and the other two are in mine - seems fair enough to me?? Not like they are under a bush covered in leaves at the bottom of his apiary! Therefore I am thinking more along the lines of the quote...

Is this the worst May since time began...

I am/was! hoping to catch me a swarm this season. I have two hives set up in the garden. A KTBH that I made myself, and a national with the entrance reduced to about 3 or 4 inches. There are a couple of hives about 300 metres or so from where I live. I also have a bait hive in a top secret...

    Hive Building?

Thanks all... Can I just ask for opinions please. Where would you put the holes in a top bar hive, 3 at the front (long side) or 2 or 3 the end? And for what reasons? Or doesn't it matter? I have seen both and I am wondering on opinions please. Which works best?? :thanks::thanks:

    Hive Building?

Thank you very much for this constructive, non patronising advice. It's very much welcomed and greatly appreciated! I can undrstand the benefits of even a very short course if it is a well organised and informative event, but it cannot be impossible to keep bees successfully without a course...

    Hive Building?

I don't think the "swallow your pride" remark is warranted by any of my posts, it just isn't a relevant comment to make. No pride issues here! Forgive me if I am mis-interpreting your post, but it reads a little harsh. Forums are the same no matter what the subject. You get people who don't...

Are the poly hives pretty robust? Worth thinking about - thank you

    Hive Building?

:spy: I understand what you are saying and appreciate all advice, I really do. With regards to the Varroa mite, I intend to make regular inspections. I was planning on not treating for Varroa unless it reared its ugly head. I have read conflicting advice and varying methods. Some are of the...

    Hive Building?

Mmm paint them you say? I didn't realise you could paint them. Have you got a picture of yours by any chance? Maybe the poly hives would be a wiser choice with regards to the harsh weather we have. It is very open behind our garden and you can really feel the cold. Do they retain heat much...
