    Time allowed for queen cells

You are of course correct. Put down to a beginners mistake. :sorry:not worthy:redface:

    Time allowed for queen cells

If bees have the choice they will naturally select the most suitable eggs/larvae from what is available. As long as you gave them access to young enough brood I would think any queen cells you find on day 4/5 would be viable. They still may not hatch though.

    Time allowed for queen cells

By day 8 all brood should be capped. I have never heard or read of brood being uncapped and reformed to try and make a queen, but someone more experienced may be along to correct me. Bear in mind though that they may have made a queen cell from a 3 day old larvae. 3 days as an egg, 3 days as...

    Super Storage

Sublimation is the art of changing from solid to gas without a liquid phase. Sulphur melts at 115 centigrade and boils at 444 degrees, so you would need a pretty hot pan to vaporize it even if it was straight sulphur that you needed. Pedants hat firmly attached, and ducking for cover.

Coloss - 17/18 winter loss report

Especially as you would expect the migratory bees to be associated with at least 3 of the "high risk" forages.

It'll be honey beer, and melomel.

    Started starting.

Day one of my beginners course was really good last weekend. Looking forward to day 2 and hoping the weather is good on Saturday for the apiary visit. I've rebuilt and re-roofed the (free) shed I picked up last week for storing spare bee and beer kit. I've managed to extract the upside down...

Bait hive has had 8 days of sustained activity

More going in than coming out. Fair few Nasonov glands getting a fanning too.

Bait hive has had 8 days of sustained activity

I'm thinking there may be more than one hive nearby sending out scouts.
