Cambridgeshire beekeepers assc run their 6 week evening course now and huntingdonshire beekeepers run a beginners course in April over three days incl practical in their apiary. I would check out their websites and contact them. Both associations help you with local bees in your first year.

Hi, we put down de-icing salt or rock salt in our apiary. Sprinkle it about just before sunset and with rain forecast and it will kill all plants. Much like glyphosate but no chemicals. Bees seem fine with it - make sure it does not linger on the surface.

I was out In my apiary at about 0330 in and found lots of activity on landing boards and flights in and out. It was about 17c

I think £4 is reasonable as filtered and jarred honey here in Cambridgeshire sells for £10/Ilb and once you factor in the jars, labelling and time spent filtering and jarring up you would still make a healthy profit if you brought at £4. So Im sticking with £4 especially as I think the bees...

Hi, this is Huntingdonshire, Cambs- lime trees flowering here in last three days and my bees are on it!

I have also seen this behaviour and yes it is the returning queen. Sometimes it might be a short orientation flight for her but if she comes back with alot of bees then probably mating flight return.
