BeeBase, the Good the Bad and the Ugly !

You could always stop importing foul brood in the first place?

BeeBase, the Good the Bad and the Ugly !

BeeBase (which I know nothing about) sounds like another top down control. If another beekeeper in my area was causing problems I would go knock on their door.

    I wasn’t expecting that!

I'm thinking to add supers back onto the hives. Inspection yesterday found they have built comb and filled with syrup in the eke. The brood box is packed out with stores and a lot of bees hanging around outside and under the open mesh floor. I have quiet a few super frames still half full of...

    Monitoring Hives

Interesting, 42C in winter sounds very high. They must have thought you were a bear :) When I vaped last winter the bees never moved and I did wonder if they were still alive.

    Monitoring Hives

I'm not planning on monitoring but the main deduction would be that they are either dead or alive. After that you could record other variables like outside temp and humidity. If you had a heat detector you could record location of cluster which may give something meaningful as you play around...

    Monitoring Hives

Thermometers is not a bad idea if you want to monitor hive. Could put the probe down through the insulated crown board and would just need to remove roof cover without disturbing the bees.

    Newbee shopping list

Depends what you use the brush for. I find it handy for removing a few stragglers from supers. I've never tried it for brushing bees off a frame.

    Struggling here, any help appreciated.

That's not what it says on the tin... "The combination of sugar together with the proteins of the bee pollen make this product ideal for beekeeping nourishment, particularly for developing families and whenever there is a scarce pollen importation."

    Newbee shopping list

Agree. only use when absolutely necessary. It's worked for me so far. I use the clear plastic clip so I can see where she is while gently closing. Not saying it doesn't come with risk and I am quite conscious when using it. Picking up by hand would require nice calm bees.

What's the alternative when their pollen (protein) stores are low? My bees took candipolline when they needed it.

What about their pollen stores? Would it not be wise to add Candipolline or similar in case they are low.
