    Wax moth larvae

I found 5 or 6 wax moth larvae on the varroa inspection board of my hive. If the larvae are on the board are they likely to be in the hive? I am reluctant to open the hive to check because they are requeening at the moment.

    Laying workers

That's what I'm thinking. I'm going to waste time and money trying something that is probably not going to work. It's been a baptism of fire!

    Laying workers

I could buy a laying queen and the bees have stores in the brood box. As for the number of bees, when we opened yesterday the brood box was pretty full and it was a lovely sunny day so lots were out foraging. Does that sound like 5000? What is your plan Bill?

    Laying workers

I posted a while ago because the queen in my very first colony of bees went missing. They seemed to be making a new one so, under the advice I received on here, from my course leader and from the supplier, I left them for a couple of weeks. When we reopened there were eggs but some cells had...

    Mystery insect poo

I have seen some earwigs around. Are they a problem? I was worried about the varroa too. The count is about 10 a day. Should I treat? Bearing in mind that we're expecting a queen to go out and get mated any day now.

    Mystery insect poo

Hi all, can anyone identify this insect poo from my bottom board? I am reluctant to open the hive to check because they are requeening.

    New colony lost queen

Thanks everyone. I spoke with the supplier and they said wait for two or three weeks and see what happens with the queen cells. After that if there is not a new queen laying they said to contact them again and think about requeening.

    New colony lost queen

Hi all, I am very new to beekeeping. I bought a nuc 12 days ago. We saw the queen when we put them in the hive and we saw her again when we inspected the following Sunday. There was a good brood patten at that time as well as 5 empty frames 2 of which were drawn out. We saw a couple of Queen...
