Is it worth putting a Hive out now so it becomes part of the landscape for possible investigations?

Probably a bit early ... it won't do any harm but I would have the entrance block with just the three holes showing rather than fully open for the time being. It's rare to see scouts out until it's really swarm season and to be honest (despite those who would have you believe there's swarms about earlier) it really doesn't start in earnest until April/May. The old adage - a Swarm in June... etc.

Back to the learning and reading this week ....

All my spare unused kit is stored in a nice dry garage where i am sure it will last longer, rather than having it outside in all weathers.
I do have two home made six frame Nuc's that will be brought out of storage and used as bait hives when the weather warms up in May/June, that is what i caught a swarm from my own bees in last year, they ignored the National brood body that was not far away so i will be doing the same this year.

My bait hives will be deployed end of March beginning of April, no expectations of scouts until mid May.
