A very competent chippy mate of mine expressed an interest in beekeeping, preferably of the 'natural' kind. He therefore knocked together a very sturdy Warré hive and asked me to try it out. A few weeks a go I dropped a small swarm in there.
Unfortunately his elegant dominoed mitre joints proved no match for boards warping in the sun, so today I got around to swapping out the top box for a spare one.
What do we think the bees had done when encountering an ever gaping crack in their nice new home:
Now if only I had had some matchsticks with me, I could have used them to stuff closed the gaps...
