Had a look at my failing colony today. Plenty of drone brood and drones but no worker brood. But i did find a queen cup with an egg in it. Is this a drone egg or would a worker have laid it? is it possible for this colony to produce a good queen, or is it too late for them?
Thanks.

Almost certainly a drone egg I'm afraid- probably laid by the old queen, possibly by a worker.

Is there anyone near you you could 'borrow' a frame of eggs from, for them to raise a queen from?
