Hello, I have just now been and had a look at my hive to see if any more dead wasps are on the ground. I have a few small clusters on the ground and on the landing board of dying bees, there are quite a few solitary bees strewn across the floor around the hive too. Any advice or explanations please, I really don't know why. There is no varroa treatment at the minute as that was finished with some weeks ago and I have stopped feeding syrup as they stopped taking it a week or so ago. Thanks.

If it's small amounts most likely tired workers nearing the end of their life who get back near to the hive weak and then chilled now the afternoon temps are dropping away. You often see it in early spring as well. Sad to see but part of the colony life cycle.

Just to be sure, what sort of numbers exactly are you talking about?

Same here but nothing at all to worry about.

There were two groups of between five and ten and probably about another 10-15 dotted about.

Unlikely to be a problem other than dying summer workers or drones but just check under the OMF to make sure they are not under shooting and congregating there. If so block off the area between the entrance and the ground. They can hang on there thinking they are in the hive and then drop off when they get chilled at night. Too weak to fly in they will die or make small groups
