For me last season was the worst ever in terms of both mating and production. My total honey take was in the end 0 as while the clearer boards were on, there was a family death and by the time I got back to the hives they had worked out the clearer boards and the sups were empty.

Personally I think the cold spell 2 weeks ago brought about a brood break. Looking in on many of my colonies, capped brood, hardly any larvae and then either lots of eggs or not many as queens get going again.
 
I had exactly the same thing Pete, queen cells at the beginning of May and only just seen a few eggs yesterday, there have been empty polished cells for a couple of weeks though. This years weather has been a double edged sword as the late and bigger blooms have also made for a heavier nectar flow... Bees are always teaching me not to worry so much :D
