New queen flys off frame Help

I hope some body might reply I had a new queen fly off the frame during an inspection will she return to the hive or have we lost her?

While we're waiting for more experienced heads - haven't (knowingly) had it happen to me, but if it did I'd close the hive back up and go away in the hope that she'll return when I'm not around disturbing things.

Heard of it happening with virgin queens but not mated ones.

Why the intrusion into the hive? Likely very much the wrong time of day?

You may have been better standing there ten minutes, as a beacon for her to return to.

Can't think what else to write. All part of the learning curve. Cross fingers and hope.

I suggest you don't go looking for her for a few days.

Sometimes they go back. Sometimes they disappear. They don't fly far if they are clipped.

The last thing that queen saw was you.

If they take of it pays to just stand there for a half hour. Oh and yes you will hear her return a very distinctive wing noise.

Young just laying queens can take off quite often too. I mark apidea mated queens for our Bee Improvement group as soon as they show good sealed worker brood. Catching them a foot up in the air not uncommon....wearing nitriles or bare hands advised.

Not for nothing are new beekeepers advised to leave alone for two or three weeks...

Agreed, she might have used you as a reference point/navigation aid. You went, she might be lost.
