First time hearing queens piping

The other day I was getting stressed because I've left all the QCs in a split hive. We'll see how that goes. But a sort of reward just now, as I went to shut away the hens, was to listen at the the hive to hear the sound of some tiny ducks quacking.....I guess my queens are hatching emerging eclosing?

Whatever....it's another interesting day in beekeeping.

I heard it for the first time a few days ago too in a nuc made up with a QC Very exciting! And the weather here is cheering up just in time for some mating flights too!

Why leave all the QCs in your split? Is it an experiment ?

Why leave all the QCs in your split? Is it an experiment ?

So it now seems. It's something there couldn't be greater contradiction in the information available to me at the time. Some experts, including on this forum, seem almost to disagree with their own advice.

The straight answer is, I previously read that the first-eclosed, new queen in an emergency situation will actively seek out and destroy the more slowly developing larval queens. That's not what I am saying is true, but it's what some much more experienced beekeepers have said.
