I went down to the jetty to watch, across the mighty Hamoaze, the Royal Navy move HMS Ocean in readiness for its recommissioning later this month. Beside the jetty was the plant shown in the photos with bees on it. I watched for a while and saw no pollen being moved so they must have found some nectar.

Does anybody know what plant this is. The nearest I got to identifying it in my Wild Flower guide, was Alexanders but that's not supposed to flower for another six weeks.

Any plant experts out there?

Yes probably Alexanders - cow parsley family. Lots of it around here but not yet in flower and I have never seen bees on it.

I join the others in their determination. Good for cooking. Use as celery, sparingly as quite strong in taste for some... young bits are good to munch raw.

Doesn't grow round here.

.................lack of seaside probably.........:D
