70yr Old Canadian Beekeeper Blogs His Secrets

A master beekeeper is just beginning his blog on the Sugar network.

campbellshoney.onsugar.com is a repository of knowledge and a daily (or bi weekly) peek at the life of Hugh Campbell, a seventy year old beekeeper that's getting his hives ready for the 2009 summer crop. Hugh still has about 300 hives, but his oldest son has about 1200 hives and together their apiary is one of the largest in Southern Ontario Canada.

So have a look, ask questions, please - this beekeeper just loves to share his knowledge and would appreciate any feedback.

Well I guess I should have given you folks the straight goods. This is my own Dad we're talking about here.

I got him started blogging about being a beekeeper on the Sugar Blog network because I thought it would be a cool URL.

He has so much knowledge locked away in his brain, I just thought this might be a nice way to get some more of it out of him. He wont be keeping bees too much longer, but while he does feel free to ask him anything - try to put his lifetime of knowledge to good use.

Visit Campbell's Honey in August and you can out and help us take off the honey crop!

That's usually when I get my best pictures of trucks full of honey supers and wide angle shots of six white suits in a beeyard surrounded by a million bees, all mad as hell.

Pictures don't do it justice actually - you have to be there and experience the sound and smell of it, and pain oh yeah there's some pain that goes along with it too..
