    Bees working Mint

I've just taken a rest on the bench next to my wife's little herb patch, and was amazed to see scores and scores of bees working the spears of flowers on the mint. Is there a necter flow from mint? I couldn't see any pollen gathering on the bees. Will the mint flavour carry over to the honey...

    Queenless hive?

OK RAB, perhaps too many "very". On my last visit to Specksavers, with their BOGOF deal, I told them I was Beekeeping and had my second pair made as occupational glasses giving maximum focus and clarity at arms length. I still can't see eggs for all the bees asking me to put the frame back. Nick.

    Queenless hive?

Thanks Frenchbees, I shall be steering well clear of that. The last info I had was that you may have up to 10 hives before getting involved with "les fonctionnaires". Only needed to inform your local Maire, and very very few do that. Nick.

    Queenless hive?

    Outcome of Clumsiness (previous thread)

Hi All. ENZO, Yes, the same amount of bees, bubbling over, all frames covered. I don't think they've swarmed. RAB, I agree, normally I don't search for the queen, I'm content to just see continual evolution of the colony, but I needed to see if she was still there after I thought that I had...

    Outcome of Clumsiness (previous thread)

After my clumsy attempt at marking a queen a couple of weeks ago, I followed admin's advice and waited a week before checking if she had survived the ordeal, and I found her on the second frame and she seemed to be OK. Before I could complete the inspection the weather changed suddenly, so I...

    Bee Hive Theft

Sorry H P, I didn't intend to make an inflamitary remark, I was just repeating my friends opinion. He went to the Lincon auction yesterday and purchased three hives of black bees, one £155 and two at £145, plus 5% commision. He says, including petrol etc, it's cost him nearly £500 to continue...

    Bee Hive Theft

Hi All. Be Warned!!! I've just spoken to a friend who moved from the Forest of Deen to near Selby in Yorkshire this winter, and he has had his four hives and bees stolen this week. Sited close to his house, No sound, No tyre marks, No trace. He's off to an auction to try and buy something to...

    I'll pay for clumsiness

Thanks for the encouragement admin. Yes she did go back onto brood comb, she also played dead when in the marking tube. I'll of course leave them alone for a week, and just hope. Thanks Nick. n.b. Is it possible to have Dadant included in the hive type for members info?

    I'll pay for clumsiness

I hope other newbies can learn from my stupid mistake. I've just come in from carrying out a second full inspection of my hives, where I was over eager and damaged a Queen. It's 20c plus here the cherry and peach are in full blossom and ideal for a good inspection. Both hives have continued to...

    Feeding honey back to bees

Thanks Craig and Sherwood. It's quallity honey from my apiary, I just don't have the customers. I've read recently in an old 1947 book by A, Norman Schofiled, that it's possible to feed back honey if diluted by one cup of water to each 1LB of honey. Hence the question has anyone experience of...

    Feeding honey back to bees

Hi All, :cheers2: for all the help and advise that you've given without realising it. Like many others I've found the answers here without asking the question. Used the search but can't find an opinion on this. I have a hive that is very active, thaking in lots of pollen. When hefted...
