    Homemade skep?

    What I use as a skep is the bottom 14" or so of an old alibarba laundry basket. I cut it off to the required height and bind the loose ends up.They do the job, and cost nothing.Been useing my present one for 10 years or so.

    Bee forage conundrum

    Some of my hives are in my old orchard, they can bee seen in the spring every year doing their pollination work.surely the same applies when hives are taken to fields of Borage, Beans,or OSR.

    cheap sugar

    As BBKA members, we can now trade at BOOKERS cash and carry. You just have to show your BBKA membership card and they let you in on a day pass. I went last week and bought 10 x 25kg bags, thats for me and a couple of mates. It works out at 55.6p a kilo.:)

    'Urban dwellers 'should keep bees'

    A secondhand National Hive, in serviceable condition, can be bought for £20- £30 most years at the Lincoln Bbb Auction, and no doubt at the other auctions held up and down the country. This would seem to me to be a far better option for someone just starting out in Beekeeping, why lay so much...

    Cheap sugar for all bekeepers from bookers

    I have been to Bookers, bought 10x25kg bags of sugar for £139.90,off the top of my head that works out at 55.96p per kilo.Trouble is there are plenty of other goodies on stock too.

    The Ben Harden Method

    Yesterday I grafted into wax cups of my own making, 13 out of the 16 have been accepted,eureka. Am I happy? bet your sweet bippy I am. This is the Ben Harden method I'm speaking of by the way. Very happy bombus.

    Ethical dilemma

    One brood box or two?

    Personally, I love the double brood system, and find it very versatile.It also go'es someway towards stopping some bees from swarming,or at least when the rape is in flower.

    Hi jenxy, see if you can beg, or borrow a copy of Donald Sims book "sixty years with bees" . In my opinion it's one of the best bee books ever written, he explains the double brooding system, and put it to good use.
