    Price of honey comb

Extremely slow when pure, almost never. One of the highest FG ratio honeys out there and if quality good can stay clear for tens of years.

    Price of honey comb

It normally comes in in a local Hungarian size...bit shorter than a Langstroth and about the same depth as a Lang medium, sometimes aka 'Dadant depth' in the UK. Arrives in single use boxes with a wooden framework and hardboard sides. Have known beeks to buy them and adapt/treat them for use on...

    Price of honey comb

There is a lot of acacia comb imported from Hungary. It is used for chunk honey mostly but some sold in full frames or as cut comb. (In recent years the normal has been getting the chunk honey done in Hungary and brought in in jars) Price not ridiculous..and its not crock of gold trading in...

    Frames in the Sales

It probably does....it was also a bit nippy. Just as well they were not hoop staples.......

'SQUIRM' does not quite hit the spot......I can almost feel it thinking about it.

    Frames in the Sales

Thank you...its only been up since late on Friday. Our designer/builder did a good job I think. Will need tweaking from time to time and I see a few small errors and omissions ..but over the next week will tackle those.

    Frames in the Sales

LOL.....had some frames..supposedly firsts..from a UK maker but had hard grain and some hard secure little knots in them. Bradder gun using 38mm 18g brads...struck a hard knot, shot out the ide..right into the knuckle of my left index finger. Bad enough to actually prevent the outflow of...

    Are you still inspecting? November?

LOL...but that's not something I would advocate...........inspecting bees when there is no good reason is going to cost you more colonies than leaving them alone...nip the queen at this time of year and the colony is toast. That Jolanta has made 100 nucs in October and will even make a final 4...

    Cheaper fondant

Don't rush to buy unless you need it...word from my contacts in the trade are that it will likely be significantly cheaper still come new year. On the subject of shelf life...keep it sealed in the boxes in a dry place and its indefinite. One of these products where a Best Before date is...

    Adding honey to sugar feed

Not a great idea. As others have suggested its sugar concentration that inhibits biological activity. Having had some exposure to the science of this in the preserves industry you get no fermentation or moulding if the concentration is 67% or over (and STAYS that way) and very little at above...

    thick bees

No...its just a whisker under 2:1......1100 litres of water to 2000Kg of sugar. The extra 100 litres ensure speedier dissolving and no crystallising out in the feeders.

    thick bees

That's nothing new...go back a while and it was one of the main planks of the selling of Ambrosia............'not detectable in honey'. Was not true then and not true now............but its an expensive thing to prove. Its not just a Chinese ruse, but they have elevated it to a different level.

    thick bees

We have stopped using invert. Price rather than quality issue. We have a big tank and buy in sugar from British Sugar in bulk and make our own c 2:1 syrup in 3 tonne batches for a LOT less than invert. But yes..we can get comb drawn readily throughout October, and even to late November in poly.

    thick bees

Its not quite that straightforward...bear in mind we do autumn comb replacement ...so our broodboxes are LIGHT and they have some comb to draw. Also dont want them arriving in sporing on a stores knifedge. We have a lot of issues with spring and in season feeding due to scrutiny from honey...

Dedicated forum for bee keepers aiming for least intrusive approaches

Yes....I know.....and even some of the appliance traders shake their heads at the fact there is demand....but they still take the money and repeat the mantra. But getting into the business of kicking other peoples belief structures is NOT a wise move if you want peace and quiet.

Dedicated forum for bee keepers aiming for least intrusive approaches

Its not a real thing. Back when this was rife and gaining adherants all over the place I was a moderator on Bee-L. Just think about the holy grail, the Housel centre comb. Its geometrically impossible, or at least would be impractical, weak, and use a LOT of wax.. I was sure enough of that to...

    Affordable prewired assembled frames?

AQctually have various ways...bvut a pin for sure is most common. Once they get a lot of slack we take one anchor out....restretch the wire by pulling it thropugh with pliars, re anchor it, and twist off the surplus. Might make some simple videos for the website. We used very springy stainless...

    Affordable prewired assembled frames?

No problem. Fair chance we will also be doing a package run down the east side too....so via the A1...but thats likely to be early May.

    Affordable prewired assembled frames?

However..had an amusing e3xchange with a guy ordering some block wax yesterday..........just shows everyone thinks differently. Its a free world..why not. Asked the price of the frames...saw some sitting here ready for a customers and when told declared them far too expensive. He buys bulk...

    Affordable prewired assembled frames?

Issue has been addressed. Our bees here are very sparse propolisers and its an issue (the top bars coming off) we do not met a lot......but its an easy fix, and now with the side staple too all new stock should be fine. We also had the maker increase the staple length...for some reason they...
