As others advise - if your unsure look for ur local assoc' you can get a 'hands on' experience before deciding to invest in bees and hives etc I can say its one of the most rewarding experiences of my life looking at the honey in jars from your own hives, proud and chuffed with my girls. All...

    super full of honey still?

Wells said and totally agree (and quite relevant to the opening post), all these years of pesticides and other cides building up in the eco-system aint doing any good added to this are the issues of monocrops and particulary in the USA where bees are transported 1000's of miles to a new site...

Apiary rental price - what is a reasonable amount?

Yeah thats what my dad did years ago but now he says the orchard owners have what they call a pollenisation tree (s) in the middle of the orchard, tbh not sure what that means but i get the impression it replaces the bees or something - or he has got the wrong end of the stick or i totally...

    Moving Hives

Ok maybe i didnt explain, I seem to have a misunderstanding here, i believe if you close the hive up with the coloney inside within the hive say in the evening move the hive When the bees are in the new position you can reopen, then the bees return to the hive - If you move the hive more than...

    Limited Company

I believe being a 'sole trader' would be better as a start than a limited co' This is what i have done, as far as what is and what isnt taxable its mainly the income from the profit As this is my first year i havent made a profit as ive spent more than ive got in return at the moment. Being a...

    Moving Hives

I moved one of mine about 200 miles and the bees didnt return, waited to the evening like i said, the majority of the hive were inside when i closed them up, so why would they return to the old site? you may get a few stragglers but i always thought when you shut them up and moved them, the...

Had To Put On Another Brood Box, Now What?

I believe the general consensus when wintering bee's is to have just a brood (i believe the 14x12 size is advocated) 4 of my colonies have reduced to the one brood box, but have a similar situation on my latest addition i bought a month or so ago, double national brood box, i have managed to...

Moving a WBC 10 miles the Plan!!

oh i know he has a wbc but i believe removing the lifts you should still be able to square the hive and strap it together.

Moving a WBC 10 miles the Plan!!

I picked up a hive (national 2 broods, 2 supers and a roof) 3.5 hrs from my home and this is how we did it, 2 pieces of angled metal the height of the hive put along opposite corners (the angle followed the shape of the corner) - obviously the roof was removed. We then strapped it at 4 points...
