Not encouraging robbing. Observing it. I thought that allowing the bees to salvage what they can would help them re-strengthen. If this is wrong please explain why. The honey was in a second hive and has been removed with frames that it was on. All destroyed. Thanks for advice.

    Whats going on?

Thanks I have got some "Honey B Healthy". Are you familiar with this? Should I spray it on with atomiser?

    Kamikaze Bumbler

I love watching hive activity. Started a thread about my bungling start to beekeeping. Now spending a bit of time watching what I think is bees salvaging their ruined comb, honey, stores etc and wasps robbing. Wasps occasionally exit with huge (as big as themselves) pieces of comb and bees are...

    Whats going on?

Cheers I smeared some supermarket honey onto a couple of frames. Not much bcause I don't want to attract wasps. So far, only bees around. . . not that I am watching 24/7.

    Whats going on?

Those of you who read my last thread will know that I have messed up badly. In short, I collected a nice swarm and hived them. I mistakenly left an empty super on top (under the lid) and realised, next day, that this ought to be removed. Didn't want to rush round and make a hash of it so left it...

    oops! Sympathy or criticism invited.

I have been advised at every step and it has to be said, the swarm collection went like a dream. Even the transfer to hive went well to a point. I did evertything that was advised but then made one stupid mistake. To rectify this, I did try to act on advice given on this forum but, with the...

    oops! Sympathy or criticism invited.

Had a look this evening. Didn't go well!!! Removed the outer lid then carefully lifted the crown board. I was expecting to see wild comb; you have all been telling me that. But I didn't expect it to be so large. It was about 5 or 6 layers amounting to something about rugby ball size. I wasn't...

    oops! Sympathy or criticism invited.

Thanks. I really meant to say that I only want to do the absolute minimum of opening the hive. Strange really because I love observing the bees and handling the frames and looking for brood etc. Point taken though; "quick look" does make it sound like an unproductive look. I will act on your...

    oops! Sympathy or criticism invited.

Thanks everyone I had intended to box the queen and return later but this wasn't an option. They were in an awkward situation at a home for adults with learning disabilities. The manager was concerned about the residents who might well have interfrered with the box, regardless of signs and...

    oops! Sympathy or criticism invited.

I do welcome some criticism but please make it constuctive. I have been ready for my first colony of bees since attending all of my local beekeeping club meetings last year but a combination of lack of time, lack of money and some very bad decision making had, frustratingly, kept me beeless...

    When is it too late...

Thanks Feeling better now. Anything to be careful about when starting a bit late in the season?

    When is it too late...

...to get my first nuc? I joined the forum a couple of weeks ago. At the time I anticipated getting my beekeeping up and running with my first nuc. Thanks to those that gave me some advice. Unfortunately, I suddenly became very busy and have still not got my girls. Won't get a chance this...

    Hello

Hasn't occurred to me until now but I hope I dont have bad reaction to stings. I was the only newbie at the club last year who didn't get stung. I paid particular attention to not making fast movements and keeping calm while handling the frames. Also....and I might be setting myself up for some...

    Hello

Thanks I already have a couple of leads from the forsale/wanted section. Got to get my head into the books now to make sure I collect and re-home correctly. Might get back to you later.

    Hello

Thanks. I have been reading up but its been like information overload. Got books for reference once I've got started and have my ex-beekeeping friend to turn to (think some of his advice might be very valuable and some might be outdated).

    Nucs for sale

    Interested! I hope I've PM'ed you (I'm a bit computer illiterate).

    Hello

Thanks. Had a quick look...seems like they get snapped up very quick. Must have a proper look tomorrow when I am a bit more awake!

    Hello

Just registered...so let me introduce myself. I'm very new to beekeeping. Last year, after reading a magazine article about the plight of our honeybees, I joined a local bee group to see if there was anything I could do to help. From the moment the roof came off the first hive, I was hooked...
