    Weather

I had a quick look in my hives a few weeks ago to organise ahead of spring expansion and have not been able to go in since. One hive bouncing, other had no brood but 3 QC,so a bit worried.Might have to bite the bullet whatever the weather

Opinions on the effective doseage of OA and Api-Bioxal sublimation for varroa ?

I used 1/2 to 1 tsp per hive 3 times at 4/5 day intervals. 1 tsp is about 3.5-4g ,so probably about 2-3g per vape. More or less.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

yes thats right. The 3rd hive ( with Q i overwintered last year and is source of the other Queens) is doing very well, very calm and laying again (its so warm I had a peek). Hope its just time of year.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

After oa treatments i combined 2 of my 3 hives. All 3 Q of the hives were young and laying, so I didn't remove a Q, used paper to separate. All 3 took a brood break after treatment. After combining I can't find either Q and the hive is as arsey as you like, as you say, constantly spoiling for...

    merging hives

    merging hives

I came out of last winter with one hive. After splits 'n' swarms I ended summer with 3 and gave 1 away. I have merged a smaller swarmed hive with its stronger originator hive. Both Q laying well, so i just put one on top of the other with paper in the hope that the bees would sort it out (...

If you unite hives do you ever end up with 2 laying queens?

I plan reducing 3 to 2 after treatments etc so this thread is very helpful. To be clear, I just pop 1 BB on the other with paper between and no QE? After how long will it be before its 1 united colony, and what about reducing to 1 BB for winter? (shake them in to 1 box? put QE back on and wait...

    “Indian” Summer next week?

Same. Supers on 2 hives already filling after being virtually empty through August, and stores also going in to BB. Will only delay varroa treatments by a week or so

    Little or no brood

Been a bit edgy over last 4 weeks as no stores in BB but plenty of bees and BIAS. Supers looking poor since extracting spring harvest in June. However over last week or so the fine weather has encouraged a spurt from bees and they are starting to fill both BB and supers. The ivy in my garden...

    Weather

July a washout here in NYorks. Torrential over last week. Inspections between storms as quite warm.44lbs of spring honey from 1 hive +1 split taken 30/6. Swarms, queens, splits

I knocked down all QC I could find, other than the emerging Q's. Went back and rechecked, found a QC and opened it. Q was alive so removed her.

    Swarms, queens, splits

I suspect not. Bizzarely I have filled in my bee book but failed to mention adding a frame or why. Can only assume I didnt find any EQC.

    Swarms, queens, splits

Found 1 more QC with an almost ready Q. So hopefully no more, and they can indeed duke it out.

Hive swarmed a week ago when I was away, what to do now?

Only been doing this for 3 years, so what do I know? started with 1 small donated colony. However never bought a Q, only use Q the bees make and last year had ~60lbs honey.

    Swarms, queens, splits

Thx for response. Why panic? This is my 3rd yr beekeeping, so sometimes get things wrong. Will check the hive again for any QC missed.

Hive swarmed a week ago when I was away, what to do now?

Why would you remove your own Q then spend money to buy one in?

    Swarms, queens, splits

On 1/5/23 I made a vertical split of my surviving overwintered hive. After 6 days i inspected to check for QC,and had a slight panic and added a frame of eggs/larvae. Today the split swarmed. I caught it and rehoused it in a new hive. On inspecting, original hive is bouncing and has 2 supers...

    Broke the QC

    will let you know

    Broke the QC

That was the original plan. Never broken a QC on inspection before so wasn't sure if they repair or abandon. Thx
