What did you do in the Apiary today?

Is it normal to get approx a handful of dying or dead bees at the hive entrance a week? It looks like they can't make it inside rather than being kicked out and takes a long time for them to die. Can't recognize any disease or reasons. Am new so wonder if there is reason to worry or not.

Attracting swarms - what are the odds?

Have just mounted my 1st bait hive with closed off floor, super, 3 drawn combs, 7 frames, crown board and roof. Also note the high-tech stick to reduce entrance (patented).

    Plans for planting

Intend to scarify the 1/4 acre of "lawn" again this year and scatter it with seeds collected and bought from last year. Its not proper lawn grass so hard to restrict growth. Last year got some wildflower mix to work but not a raving success. Any ideas?

Have my 1st colony on 2 BBs down for the Winter and want to order equipment for an additional planned 2nd colony or enough for possible unplanned 3rd colony for next year. Would it be sensible to get enough for 2 hives (1 new) each of 2 BBs, 4 Supers, frames/ foundations etc for the planned 2...

Super under or over brood box for winter?

Thanks very much, your response makes sense and proof that if you don't understand advice from an "experienced beekeeper" don't necessarily follow it.

Super under or over brood box for winter?

Have two Brood Boxes and was going to exchange the original very heavy bottom one for the top one this week on advice. It will not involve a lot of disturbance so is the advice to make the change good?

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Sorry if a stupid question but- do you use insulation for polly hives or is it just for wooden?

Does anyone know what clover is well worked such as above? I planted White Dutch, Trifolium last Spring and it did not attract bees.
