Price of honey jars - up , up , up

I have no idea but as they can't access the milk and it has to pass daily testing and a record kept of same I am guessing that therefore the consumer has responsibility for the cleanliness of the bottle. I had a conversation with the farmers daughter who is the brains behind it and that is what...

Price of honey jars - up , up , up

A dairy farm near us sell "raw" milk and encourage you to bring your own jar or reuse the one they sell. The have recently opened 2 new outlets in a farm shop and a coffee shop. Customer does all the refills themselves but has no access to the milk other than pushing a button. The liability...

    Best honey warmer

Really silly question time now. The old fridge method with either the tubular heater or the light bulb. It heats the honey in say a 3 gallon bucket set in the bottom of the old fridge overnight or within 24 hours or so and no need to stir or for water for that matter? I know where I can get my...

    Forum Poll

Personally I hesitate asking questions as I am quite inexperienced and feel like my questions may sound silly. That is just in life in general not just this forum. Some very knowledgeable people on here and there contributions are very much appreciated. I prefer to read others questions and...

    Pollen

Just as an aside and maybe a silly question. When do bees bring in nectar? I am assuming that the temp needs to be fairly high, like above 10c or something? I see plenty of pollen going into my hives here but was just wondering about nectar. Too cold yet for a full inspection and I am just in my...

    Friends lost colony pictures

Hi all. Just a beginner here but looking at the number of bees with their heads in cells and the lack of stores on the frames i am leaning toward starvation myself. Wings of bees don't seem to show much sign of DWV? Now I am no expert just hoping to learn.

    Queen cage - varroa management

I too would like to try this method, I actually got the small queen cage from Donegal Bees last year, hope to try it this year and compare with my usual varroa treatment. Worth a try.

How many cells could I raise?

Thanks for the replies. I must look into the cloak board. Appreciate the response from you more experienced beekeepers. On the volume of honey from 5 hives, if I get 20 lbs I will be happy. Mind you I wouldn't say no to 200 lbs!!!

How many cells could I raise?

Very interesting topic. I have only 5 colonies, hoping to have 10 by year end and try to get some honey. I was thinking of using a nuc as a cell builder Getting the cells draw above a q right colony using an almost closed off q excluder, ram the nuc full of nurse bees and hope for the best...
