    Replacing Queen

Thanks. I've had two hives (including the one in question) since November and both boxes are made up of medium supers (one medium in the bad queen box) and I'm not sure if there are enough frames in the other box to share with the hive in question. So implementing Dozzers' recommendation, I...

    Replacing Queen

I appreciate your advice and it sounds like it would work; this technique will be implemented on Thursday as its supposed to rain all day tomorrow. I'll let you know what the results are. As a side-note, I would not "slap" my tool against a hive of bees (as a couple of people here assumed I...

    Replacing Queen

I have what could be a comprehensive question regarding replacing a lame queen. Just checked my hive and discovered that the existing queen is not laying (no new eggs anywhere and plenty of drone cells). So, I attempted to find her (not marked) and when I finally found her on the last frame in...

    Foundationless Frames

Would galvanized wire work instead of stainless steel?

    Foundationless Frames

I've heard of people using monofilament line and I've heard that wire can be used. I'm looking at using wire as monofilament is far more difficult work with. Just need to know what type of metal wire (galvanized, stainless steel, aluminum, etc) to use and what would be the best size/gauge.

    Foundationless Frames

Regarding foundationless frames, what type of metal wire is acceptable to use and what gauge works best? I plan on using the checkerboard effect in my hives using one frame with foundation next to a foundationless frame throughout my hives so need suggestions. Thanks

Re-Queening - How Long Can She Live?

Got a question for those more experienced keepers ... I need to replace an existing queen who is leading a hot hive; she's in charge of some pretty aggressive females and that's got to change. The problem stems from my inability to kill her; she's a quick, elusive critter and I haven't been...

    Oh My God

People living in less-than-perfect nations shouldn't throw stones at others. Yes, America has a problem with some mentally ill people but that doesn't mean guns are killing people. It means that crazy people are killing people with guns, knives, shovels, baseball bats and other instruments...

    Oh My God

This is not a gun or weapon problem ... its a mental problem. Taking guns from honest, law-abiding citizens does not curb the violent aggression of those who want to make a statement, create terrorism or lash out at society. Stripping guns from a nation simply limits the ability of society...

    January Honey

Thanks for the advice on both accounts. Yes, brand new keeper here and I've been trying to study about this as much as possible; just didn't expect any bee veteran to simply punk before offering help. And no, I won't be selling any honey until I know its actually honey. One question: will the...

Well Mr. BeeMade ... welcome to the forum!

    January Honey

I thought of that so ... I tasted it and yes, its full-blown, home-grown, pure, raw honey. My wife loved it. Since this is my first year of beekeeping, I can only imagine that they are turning the sugar water into honey because it looks like they have more honey in the frames than they are...

I have been feeding them a sugar/water solution since mid-December.

    January Honey

I inspected my two hives Tuesday afternoon and discovered that the bees have produced almost three frames of honey since I installed a new medium super on each box. I'm in central Texas where its not nearly as cold of a winter as in other parts of the world. Is it normal for bees to produce...

    Hive Thefts

I've searched this forum as best I can but don't find a thread addressing the theft of hives and preventing such losses. So, thought I would see what the thoughts are out there on how to deter low-life crooks from stealing hives. Any ideas? Any experiences with someone stealing your hives and...

    Rain & Bee Hive

On Jan 10th, high winds from the huge storm blew off the top of one of my two hives (with concrete block on top), exposing the bees to the heavy down-pouring rain. Once the rain calmed down, I put the top back on and the next day, bees were back to business as usual and have been ever since...

    New Keeper Here

I agree and I'm saving from my current job to do just that. However, money doesn't create profit but $$$$ + knowledge will. Thanks Dani!
