    Apivar Now?

Thanks. Yes I realise it's likely to be in all (three) of my hives. There is evidence of brood rearing so OA wouldn't get the varroa in the sealed cells. Also I've never done OA but I know Apivar. Point taken about interfering but I think I'll chance the Apivar.

    Apivar Now?

I have varroa in one of my hives. Is there any reason why I shouldn't treat now with Apivar and have it finished before supers go on? Thanks.

Hived Swarm on the shed. How, when to move it?

Thanks you folks, Fantastic. I've moved them. But why no feed? I understood syrup would help with drawing comb so Q can lay.

Hived Swarm on the shed. How, when to move it?

Hi, my tribe, A swarm on the roof of the shed obliged this evening and went into the brood box I put up there. I then put a floor and QX beneath it. I'll feed syrup tomorrow morning (in rapid feeder). Question is how and when to move them to a better location. Thanks. J

How to introduce Q to hive hopelessly Q-less

In each of two hives I reduced Q cells to one and went on holidays for nearly two weeks. Hive A doesn't have a lot of bees and many are drones. Hive B has more workers and seems to have some pollen in many brood frames. I have two new queens in two Apideas, recently laying. These are from Q...

    Strimming around the hives

What's the best time of day to strim around my three hive. I thought maybe at dusk when they are all in bed. I'd still wear my PPE. Thanks.

    Is this colony Queenless?

Colony with plenty of bees and lots of stores all winter. Today the inspection board seems to have only uncapping debris from stores but none from brood. Am I reading this correctly? Other colonies have brood debris. Ta

    Why have I no Varroa?

Since July 2022 I haven't seen any varroa, despite have boards on a few times. I've had them on again for the last week but still I can't see any. Three swarms arrived here early this summer and even they have none. Is this unusual? Why might it be? Thanks.

    Late Queen Rearing

Is it too late to put a frame of eggs/larvae into a queenless colony with a view to rearing a few Qs? Would there still be drones about? Thanks.

    Brood Frames- what to do?

Thanks Ian. I'll do another photo tomorrow.

    Brood Frames- what to do?

I cut the foundation out of most of my Br frames and scraped them down. They're from my own hives and no sign of serious disease (?? fingers crossed) Based on advice from respected members here (to another member) I'd be please not to engage with steam/soda/acid etc. But I have about 10 brood...

    Super Frames- what to do?

I have quite a number of super frames that look something like the two in the photo. Is the white stuff just crystallised store? What to do? Just trim the frames and put the supers on above the Brood box when the time comes? Put a box of them below the Brood box now and hope the bees will...

    Thanks. But why not?

Can I remove partially sealed super?

Thanks. I forgot about this point.

Can I remove partially sealed super?

I have this idea to remove a very heavy super from the top of my hive (mainly to save my back) and then to extract the honey straightaway. Obviously I'd first put on a clearer board for a day before the removal. My question is whether this would be ok or would there be any problems e.g. honey...
