    Is this colony Queenless?

Colony with plenty of bees and lots of stores all winter. Today the inspection board seems to have only uncapping debris from stores but none from brood. Am I reading this correctly? Other colonies have brood debris. Ta

    Why have I no Varroa?

Since July 2022 I haven't seen any varroa, despite have boards on a few times. I've had them on again for the last week but still I can't see any. Three swarms arrived here early this summer and even they have none. Is this unusual? Why might it be? Thanks.

    Late Queen Rearing

Is it too late to put a frame of eggs/larvae into a queenless colony with a view to rearing a few Qs? Would there still be drones about? Thanks.

    Brood Frames- what to do?

I cut the foundation out of most of my Br frames and scraped them down. They're from my own hives and no sign of serious disease (?? fingers crossed) Based on advice from respected members here (to another member) I'd be please not to engage with steam/soda/acid etc. But I have about 10 brood...

    Super Frames- what to do?

I have quite a number of super frames that look something like the two in the photo. Is the white stuff just crystallised store? What to do? Just trim the frames and put the supers on above the Brood box when the time comes? Put a box of them below the Brood box now and hope the bees will...

    Extracting OSR honey

Thank you Finman, Apart from when doing artificial swarm, what other way can I feed them to my colonies that they will use up the honey that is set in the frames?

Can I remove partially sealed super?

Thanks. I forgot about this point.

Can I remove partially sealed super?

I have this idea to remove a very heavy super from the top of my hive (mainly to save my back) and then to extract the honey straightaway. Obviously I'd first put on a clearer board for a day before the removal. My question is whether this would be ok or would there be any problems e.g. honey...

    Late Swarm

Thanks. No I didn't have any treatment on. ( For some odd reason I haven't detected ANY varroa on any of my five hives- another mystery)

    Late Swarm

Hi all, Yesterday I looked in the brood box of a not very strong colony, expecting just continued egg laying. Found no eggs or larvae but two decent sealed Q cells and a couple of what seem to be tiny sealed Q cells. (23 August five frames had some brood/eggs at various stages). So Q has...

    Queen Cell Conundrum

6-8 weeks ago I caught a swarm in a bait hive. I didn't notice their arrival. I left them in that box. When I looked inside after a couple of weeks there was no brood/eggs. I put in some brood frames and left them. The same each time I looked over the last few weeks. No evidence of a queen...

Dealing with a wasps nest - not really bee related

Perhaps you've already taken action. One year we had two wasp nests in the. ground, not far from our beehives. After dark I poured a large saucepan of boiling water down each. Seemed to do the job.

    Uniting Queenright with Queenless

Hello all, I want to unite a queenright colony + its supers (BB1 & Supers1) with a queenless colony + its supers (BB2 & Supers2). Reading BBKA Guide to Beekeeping (2nd ed.) I'm a bit mystified. The book would suggest that the order from the bottom would be: BB1; newspaper+ QX; BB2...
