    Question regarding fall feeding

Here in the US we typically feed heavy syrup (2:1) in the late summer/ early fall to get our colonies up to weight for winter. When feeding this way, I feed approximately one gallon of syrup for every 10 pounds that I want to add to the hive. Is there some such formula for feeding fondant? I...

    Apidea/ Fondant

Thanks, I was worried about the fondant potentially drying out so I will definitely mist it with some water.

    Apidea/ Fondant

We are going to be setting up and transporting about 100 Mann Lake mini mating nucs which are very similar to the Apidea mating nucs. We are moving these to an isolated mating yard and I was wondering how much fondant to put in each when setting them up? We normally use syrup but because we are...

    Pollen Substitute with Fondant

Has anyone here fed fondant in the early spring and added pollen substitute to help with build-up? How did you incorporate the pollen substitute? I am thinking about adding some fondant to some of my overwintered colonies and am thinking about dusting the fondant with Dry pollen substitute...

    Let’s talk Fondant...

They obviously do better on stored honey or syrup but if colonies are low on stores they will eat dry sugar, candy, sugar bricks or fondant.

    Let’s talk Fondant...

So why do you say that they can’t eat fondant?

    Let’s talk Fondant...

I am feeding nucs with bakers fondant directly on top of the frames. I am only feeding them fondant because they were light and I got it for the same price as I could get sugar so why make candy or sugar blocks? I also dont have holes in my inner covers but instead make one side deep to hold...

Lol, I guess my bees didn’t get the memo because they have been eating a lot of it.

    Let’s talk Fondant...

What are the various ways to feed it? I have heard of the take-away containers, wrapping it in Cling film, using Zip Top bags. It seems that some feed it over the hole on the inner cover/ crown board, in an eke above an excluder, on the top bars of frames, etc... Yesterday, I saw somewhere that...

    Percentages

I remember seeing a chart sometime not too long ago that showed the dilution of race in subsequent generations of queens. Does anyone know where I can find that information?

    Feeding Fondant

I have already fed them syrup this fall to get their weight up but I usually add a candy board or sugar bricks as insurance. I chose to try fondant this year as it is much easier and I got it relatively cheap.

    Feeding Fondant

What is the preferred method of feeding Fondant to colonies as a means of emergency food? should I place it wrapped in plastic or plastic bag directly on the frames or is it necessary to place it on a queen excluder? This will be my first year using it as a winter feed and will be using it on a...

    Double Entrance

I have seen a few videos of people utilizing entrances in both the front and back of their hives during winter. This was on what looked like typical wooden Langstroth hives without upper entrances or ventilation. Is this a common practice in colder parts of Europe? Here in the USA, people preach...
