    Plant ID Please

I would advise moving it well away from the house. We have one we had to take down due to rot in the branches. Has proved very difficult to remove stump and roots.

Willow almost oiut. Bees all over the blackthorn which is looking magnificent. Lots of yellow pollen coming in but no OSR in my location that I know.

This is available in small (repackaged) quantities on ebay. Have used in previous years effectively.

What's flowering as forage in your area

The lime avenue is now in flower with that distinct odour wafting around. Bees are aso on bramble and some on white clover and knapweed.

Our avenue of limes just starting to open. Amazing aroma. Just hoping the flowers will provide plenty of nectar this year.

No rain here for about two months. Concerned that we have a repeat of last year with lime in flower but no moisture so very little nectar. Five years ago conditions were perfect so my bees loaded every crevice with nectar while I was on holiday in Naples. Still my best ever year - not since!

What's flowering as forage in your area

My wild cherries are virtually over, however there is a great hum from my colonies foraging on a clump of field maples - only surpassed by a nightingale in an adjacent tree.

Any scouts at your swarm trap?

Was excited four days ago as scouts investigated my baitl hive. Numbers slowly increased but no swarm. Too many now for scouts with number staying the same just a few hundred. Can only assume this is a cast - probably with a virgin queen. Irritating as this seriously reduces chance of good swarm.

I am just sorting out tomato seeds for next year. Planning to grow Orange Parouche, Green Zebra, Noir de Crimee and Apero..Would welcome advice on a couple of medium size red tomatoes with lots of flavour. All will be grown in an unheated greenhouse. Anyone tried Y Ddraig Gogh?

Wax moth are rampant this year

I cannot believe how fast they develop on the comb. You remove the larvae you can see and when you return two days later to fix the problem there are cocoons with six or more disgusting grey larvae inside. Serious action under way!

mervyn shute hallo all. i live in newquay

When I started beekeeping about ten years ago I borrowed a hive from my builder. It was a Langstroth and I have had them ever since, despite some good natured pressure from the BKA I joined to learn the basics. Very pleased to have fallen on my feet. I keep hearing experienced beeks...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I had quite a few bees left after using my rhombus overnight when I went this morning. My error was not leaving sufficient space underneath. 50mm just not enough when the hive is full of bees. Ok elsewhere. Lesson learned.

Wax moth are rampant this year

I am planning the same treatment this year. Never used Xen Tari before but some videos about in on you tube, mainly from the States where it appears from one of them it is approved for treatment.

Looking for some recommendations on small cherry tomatoes - similar size to sungold. Flavour is the most important - just like sungold. Tried various varieties but none stand out. Will be grown in unheated greenhouse so blight should not be an issue. Thanks.

I could change my mind about (European) Hornets, you know...

Lots of hornets here. They are around waiting to pick off not just honeybees but wasps as well. Sadly not just the wasps!

    Fake news

Oh is that a newspaper. I thought it was a daily magazine for those who prefer not to read something more challenging!

I only try to grow for flavour with tomatoes and most home grown vegetables. Just such an improvement over those in the shops. Similarly with apples I grow varieties not usually available in main supermarkets.

What is the best OA vaporiser?

Laurence at Black Mountain Honey has a good u-tube video about gas masks. Worth a look IMO.
