Brood in the winter food super

Hi, Over the winter I left a super on one of my hives for food over the winter. I also fed them fondant when it was cold a few weeks ago but left the super in place. On checking them now it is warmer, there is brood in the super. Please can you tell me how I can rectify this? Thank you!!!!!

    Varroa Treatment Question

Thanks both. Sounds like a new queen and then treating the hives at the same time after the new queen has settled in would be the best option. Thank you! Vicky

    Varroa Treatment Question

Hi, I have some varroa treatment ready to go (Apivar Life) but one of my hives is trying to supercede the current queen. She is laying but not a lot. There are two really nice looking uncapped queen cells on different frames. Presumably I need to wait to treat that hive until the new queen...

How long does it take to clear a super?

Thanks everyone! I was hoping to put the bee escapes on this evening but it is raining here fairly heavily. Will I get away with it, or should I wait until tomorrow? Thanks

    First Swarm Collection

Thank you! Drawn comb was all I had to hand, but am expecting an order of wax today, so can try to swap them over.

    First Swarm Collection

Hi, On Saturday a lovely big swarm settled on a neighbour's tree. I managed to collect them and got them to walk into a nuc that I had to hand. I have ordered a hive for them to go in but it won't be here until Friday. The reason for my post is that I think the colony is too large for the...

How long should I keep feeding?

Great - thanks everyone. I will take the feeder off and keep an eye on them.

How long should I keep feeding?

So taking the feeding box off would help them at this stage even though not all 12 are drawn out? Will they still continue to draw out the remaining frames without the feeder?

How long should I keep feeding?

Yes and lots of pollen coming in too.

How long should I keep feeding?

They are in the hive. When I looked last weekend there was an empty frame at each side and a half filled frame next to that on one side no another empty frame in the other. There are 11 frames in total and they arrived on 6.

How long should I keep feeding?

Hi, I bought a colony of bees in early April. I have been feeding them sugar syrup but am unsure when to stop. Any guidance would be gratefully received! Thanks Vicky

    Amazingly they are still alive!!!

So they don't eat through the tape?

    Amazingly they are still alive!!!

It looks like it may be a Paynes polynuc. I have an eke to go on it, so could use that to create space to feed them fondant and also to add some insulation. I will have to have a think about how I can close the feeder gap.... The entrance has an option with small holes that mice wouldn't be...

    Amazingly they are still alive!!!

There was a whole load of queen drama and I thought they were Q-. Clearly not!!

    Amazingly they are still alive!!!

A few weeks ago there had been no eggs, larvae or brood in my colony for 6 weeks. I closed them up thinking they would be dead in a week or two because their numbers were so depleted. Yesterday I went to clear out the hive and was amazed to find 4 frames of bees with worker and some drone...

How to store an empty hive?

So if I don't have freezer room and there are pollen stores, should I throw those combs away and start again next year? Thanks

How to store an empty hive?

There are stores in some of them. Will they be okay in the garage in a brood box or do they need to be kept more carefully? Thanks
