Really angry bees - appear to have queen

I wonder if you can help? I have four hives, two of which are the collected swarms of the others and all four appear to have a queen - on inspection today, eggs visible in two and young larva in the others. However, the last couple of visits, the bees have been extremely angry and have readily...

How long queen excluder on swarm nuc?

Thanks for the reply - yes, I should have mentioned that the swarm came from one of my hives and I was actually around to see it coming out! Great experience but not exactly great timing! So, QE put on to keep the queen in (I assumed she was the old donor hive queen and didn't need to mate.)

How long queen excluder on swarm nuc?

Last week, a swarm from one of my colonies was caught and has been put into a Langstroth with new foundation and a queen excluder at the bottom to make sure she doesn't get out. They have a feeder with some 1:1 syrup in an empty super to get them going with drawing out the foundation. My...

Wild comb built under frames - now what?

Well, it must have been a case of me putting in regular sized frames into a deep-frame langstroth hive. However, the fact is that I now have a brood box with frames that have wild comb constructed on the bottom of the frames, including brood, and I don't know what to do with it.....! How do I...

Such a thing as a Langstroth Nuc box?

Can you advise me how I should go about getting a nuc box for developing nucleus when I have Langstroth hives and the only nuc boxes I see available are based on nationals? The frames would not be compatible when they were transferred to a hive, surely?

    is it normal....

I noticed exactly the same scenario - a few flying on Saturday and then on Sunday a hundred or so dead outside the entrance of each hive. Underneath the OMF was a lot of dust which I took to being the bees rapidly uncapping honey supplies.

New comb hanging under my feeder

I thought my hive was taking a lot of syrup and it was only when I investigated further today that I found that they have taken advantage of the space beneath the feeder (Ashforth type) to build new comb to store it.......is this normal? I was under the impression that they would simply not take...

Ignoring Apiguard - shal I remove?

I'm currently on my second tray at the moment and it's proving really effective. (I wasn't aware that I could feed at the same time as the treatment...!) My question though, is, an odd one: the chap cutting the huge hedge in front of the hives can only come during the api treatment and he will...

Hello-New to the forum why not post a "Hi" message for other users to welcome you.

Hello from a newbie down here on the edge of the New Forest. This is my first year with two hives and learning fast - stings to prove it - but have got the bug (?!) Have really enjoyed browsing the forum; the mixture of advice and sense of humour is great - thanks.

    Bl***y hornets!

I've only just joined this forum, being a novice, and thought I would find out what others were doing about wasps....and then I read this thread! You'll forgive me for laughing so much - the mental image is wonderful. I thought I had problems. My attempts at trapping wasps resulted in wasps 3...
