    yes i agree the two hives are not that strong but still working hard, wondered whether it would be best newspaper combine or just call it a day on the hives that was my question and just replace with the nucs as they expand, did not want to damage or put back the nucs as they are building up...

    thankyou for your replys its always reasuring to have bee keepers who have seen it and done it all before giving good advice, I thought I was on the right track but not seen full frames of crystilised stores this time of year before.

    I still have combs full off crystalised honey in my brood chamber, i was under the impression that the bees would sort it out but they dont seem to of touched it, I have about 4 frames in each brood box... Should i remove and add foundation or just leave it as it seems to be taking up valuable...

    The honey is crystalized and I pressume it is Ivy because it tastes foul!! I dont think its good enough to be jarred. just wanted a solution to get it out of the comb so they can be reused this year

    I Put one of my hives facing a hedge hoping that the bees would fly out and go up and over the hedge so they were high up and would not be a nuisance to anyone, but they come out of the hive and fly around and dont go over the hedge... This is not really an issue as they are not causing any...

    What have you learned in your first year?

    To make sure I look over the frames more closely for queen cups with eggs in as lost a swarm yesterday, so must of missed the queen cup with the egg in last week.... I inspect every Sat but if you miss an egg by the next sat they are swarming, going to do 5 day inspections from now on I think...
