What did you do in the 'workshop' today

You can get a gizmo with a ceramic heater and fan fixed together and a digital thermostat both running on 12 volts. (that Chinese place beginning with t) I built a surround about 50mm wide of 50mm kingspan two layers deep on a langstroth size board and fixed these to the base with the heater...

    Hmmm. Not happy

That's man made! okay, person made! The roof got dropped off in front and then the box, still being the right way up, was carried that distance away before having the frames taken out and thrown aside one by one.

    Cheap security camera anyone?

I've got an HD internet 4g camera on the allotment. solar powered battery in it with 60 days rolling charge. it tracks bodies and turns on illumination when alarmed to give full colour. SD card in it and alarms on the phone. you can talk through it and if needed turn on the siren which is enough...

    Where are the wasps?

cabbage whites are multiplying around here, Bumbles are very rare, Haven't seen a wasp for a month or so. My allotment hive is going berserk on the autumn raspberries because there's no competition. the Buddlias and honeysuckle are just hanging around in flower as there's no pollinators here.

bees mooching about at the door

Well,, just been in. All looking great, bit of brace comb, building out external foundation and storing supplies. BIAS, slabs due to hatch anytime. Floor is clean. At the door now they can't get in quick enough. Messin' with my head I suppose, I imagined something nasty sitting in the frames!

    (Other) flying insects

I've seen one worker bumble in the last fortnight! Double zero white cabbage butterflies, One worker wasp on an ex pigeon. I contacted the bumble conservation lot and they didn't seem worried, swearing they'll bounce back! Just so long as the cabbage whites stay in France I'll be happy.
