Looking at those bees, doesn't look like there is much 'black bee' genes showing. Are you sure your records are right?

Interesting to hear fondant described as 'treat'. Why would a lump of boiled sugar, devoid of nutrients, refined and processed, be seen by the bees as a treat? Use it as a poor substitute, desperate measures or starvation emergency rations, maybe.

Good: height, brood frame size, small supers, bees like it, great insulation Bad: rubbish q excluders (sag), not easy to move, slugs love it over winter, cannot swap parts so hard to clean, full brood frame heavy to hold, not all components lock together well, plastic holds mould over winter...

Shook swarm is for strong healthy colony. Bailey is recommended for colony stressed by nosema. They are in a weakened state - no fondant. Keep them warm and feed 1:1 to help them recover.

May add to workforce but also more mouths to feed - also addition of bees causes stress which may lead to fighting, dysentery or too big space to heat at vulnerable time. May just have to sacrifice them for the greater good. Easier to tip all out and let them beg way in than formally merge.
