    Curious about queen behaviour

I wondered about her being damaged. The bees appeared to be trying to prevent her from leaving. Every time she went back in the hive they left her alone

    Curious about queen behaviour

I was watching my bees today and noticed a small cluster of bees on the landing board. A close look revealed that the cluster was around the recently hatched queen. (still in Q cell on Tuesday) The behaviour of the bees did not appear friendly as they seemed to be trying to prevent the queen...

    mini nucs

I have been trying to raise queens this year using mini-nucs and have come across a couple of problems. 1) I don't think I put enough bees in to start with, can I ad more and if so what would be the best way. 2) what is the best way to refill the feeder as they have using the fondant very quickly.

Beecraft + BBKA new style newsletter!

Beecraft is a private limited company owned by the associations rather than BBKA. Indeed the BBKA recently tried to remove the "Official Journal Status", a move that was rejected by the associations. Now I suspect that the BBKA is trying to compete with Beecraft but can not think why

    Queen Rearing

Last year I bought a queen which I understand is of slovinian origin. I like the temprement and I have noticed that the colony gets started foraging well before the other hives in the apiary. So I am considering raising some new queens from her slovinian majesty. However I have heard that the...

    Th***es 2nd's.

I have bought a few over the years and on the whole they have been satisfactory. Just need to watch out for the odd unplaned piece or the odd badly sited knott that can weaken the structure.

Having been attacked by a dog rose today I was reminded of school days when I used to collect rosehips and wondered if it is possible to make my own rosehip syrup.
