    Bees feeding on blackberries

    Bl##dy Hornets.

Just curious...how many beekeepers noticed hornets around their hives until the Asian hornet became a threat? As I say, just curious.

    BeeBase - August 2017

 Does "ventilation" or "good circulation" necessarily imply top ventilation, which I think is what you are alluding to? (I'll put a :o in, in anticipation ) And a just in case PS: I haven't read the whole doc, just your quotes!

ID, please? Not much left to go on, though...

Has anyone got any ideas??? Found on the top bars of the brood nest. It's so propolised, I can't even see if it has two pairs of wings or not. The only distinctive features I can see are the size(!), large eyes, "parallel" venation, the remains very dark "fur" on the dorsal thorax - ginger...

Learner Drivers to be alowed on the Motorways?

OK, I've got my tin hat and flak jacket on...and this obviously isn't all relevant to motorways, but what about the view from the other side. Pedestrians, cyclists, horseriders, motorcyclists, pony and trap? Perhaps every potential driver should experience the road from these perspectives...

    bee markings

Here it grows everywhere, even surviving among bracken on the hills! Now I know Wales is wet, but even here the water doesn't flow all the time...;)

    Hive tools

glasses - unless they're on my head....the real problem is when I can feel them there, but they aren't!

    Would you buy?

Often following a good year...during which rarely used supers were pulled back into commission...?

    Clearing supers

Have a look at the directions for using MAQS and the FAQS. You'll see they advise giving extra space, if necessary, so that the bees can "spread out" when you dose them. It really is vile smelling stuff. (Don't be tempted to have a sniff at it when you open the box/bucket it comes in....)...

    Poly Nuc Conversion

Looks really good - am tempted to give it a go (is that a Maisie polynuc?). Do you use/intend to use anything to prevent the bees propolising the divider in place? thanks

A beekeeping equipment supplier who has finally stepped out of the dark ages

Errrm, at the risk of provoking another hail of derision, what exactly is the problem of crown boards with holes??? I find the hole very useful when feeding, and I remove it when not feeding. That way I only need one board. (Unfortunately, I don't have space to store ashforths/millers, so am...

    clearer boards

It seems a bit early to be taking the last super off. Assuming that you do you use queen excluders, it may well be necessary to replace space as supers are removed. In my area, himalayan balsam and/or heather is flowing. How much space you give when removing supers depends on the size of the...

    Mouse guards and reduced entrances

IMHO, definitely too early for mouse guards... the bees are starting to gather pollen for winter and mouse guards strip pollen off the bees' legs. I reckon to leave it for a few months yet for mouse guards, and I only use them on deep entrances, ie more than 8 - 9mm. I've not had any prob...

    Stings and mean bee's

I would also suggest getting experience of other people's/local association's bees. It will give you a yard stick to measure your bees by, especially if you don't have much experience of different colonies. Good luck and keep going! it does get easier (generally!) with experience

Don't be misled - free delivery

I note from their website that they don't exactly specify a delivery time....May I ask if they did specify when the goods would arrive and, if so, how long was it and did they meet that target? ! Thanks

Getting rid of an infected colony

Have a read of the NBU leaflet, as per the link posted by Stiffy. It suggests that comb should be replaced as it is, as yet, unknown how long the virus can survive outside a bee....

    Solitary bee project

No need to try to move them - they are gentle little souls. Not all have stings and they are difficult to provoke. I stand right in front of my bug boxes, less than a foot from the head height entrances, to watch as the nests build up. Even though I must be, temporarily at least, a right PITA...
