There have been a few suggestions to get fondant from Bako. Minimum order is £100. If I buy a large quantity, can you freeze it? Cliff

Any recommendations for a new smoker?

Tonybloke and Polyhive The smoker recommended earlier are just under £50.00 They do a 7*4 inch and 10*4 inch for similar money. Is the 10 inch ok to use, not too big and clumsy? Cliff

Any recommendations for a new smoker?

Yes, they were from ebay. The finger handle, the bit that you use to open the lid pulled off, the hinges snapped and a filter from inside the smoker fell out. Something much stronger is wanted.

Any recommendations for a new smoker?

I have bought 2 smokers this year, both cheapo's and both have fallen to bits. So with a birthday coming up soon, I thought I would treat myself to a decent one! Are there any all time favourites to go for? Any recommendations please? Cliff

Is fibreglass loft insulation ok to use to keep bees cosy over winter?

I have used porter escapes in the past but when I left them on for a while they gummed them in the open position!

Is fibreglass loft insulation ok to use to keep bees cosy over winter?

I've left a little gap in the feeder hole for ventilation. If it is ok to use loft fibre, I will block the feeder hole completely and use a couple of match sticks under the crown board on the solid floor hives.

Is fibreglass loft insulation ok to use to keep bees cosy over winter?

I have a spare roll of loft insulation. Is it ok to use or will the bees not like the fibres? Cliff

Some of my bees clustered in the roof space then war broke out!

There are 2 feeder holes. I have one covered with some hardboard but it had moved slightly so the bees could find the way up. You can see in the background that a hive has a double brood box. I have a couple of these, one out of shot. These are the ones i united about a month ago. My other...

Some of my bees clustered in the roof space then war broke out!

I went to collect the feeder buckets and found a large clump of bees in the roof. They had started making comb here. The wet patch is water that leaked in and is not sugar syrup. I was going to shake them back into the hive but found it quite packed in the brood box. I decided to...

    Beginner's question

I had a couple of hives in the garden but ended up moving them away. They got so busy that I was afraid of them stinging self when gardening. Worse still, going for next door when they are cutting grass etc. Take a look at this...

Im not sure what you are saying here. I am a very new beek here. I need help and sound advice. My hives swarmed this year. All I want is improvement from you beeks. My solution, give them more space. Thanks to the replies, and i take your advice not yet on double brood. HAVE A GO AT ME...

Going to add a second brood box tomorrow

No! One thread asking about starving bees! This thread asking about swarm control! And such a positive result, I will not be double brooding tomorrow. Thanks.

Going to add a second brood box tomorrow

I have several hives. 2 have been united recently. One hive had a laying worker and i did the dump on the grass routine and then united with a nuc. This worked well and I have a laying queen! Another hive was broodless, no eggs for a month and this was united with another nuc. This was a...

Going to add a second brood box tomorrow

Thanks all! Seems like everyone is of the same opinion! Mentioned earlier, tomorrow is the final day for apiguard control. I thought I would give them some room over winter. Partly because of the earlier 'over wintering post' but also, I lost most of my bees to swarms. I assume due to lack...
