Strap everything down -- it might get a bit bumpy

Oh no! The wind is due to drift around towards the north as far as I'm aware, but quite slowly. I've been trying to report a power fault for friends just over the valley behind us. National Grid claim not to know about it, but they're no longer taking reports online and their phone system is...

Strap everything down -- it might get a bit bumpy

Just had Dan the DPD delivery man knock on the door (he's a local celebrity -- shop openings a speciality). Being self-employed and on overtime rates he's working today, obviously. Only he couldn't get down our drive because in the last couple of hours a tree has fallen over it. Looks like...

    A New Asian Hornet Problem

Charge chinless upper-class tweed-wearers £1000 per insect to shoot them. If it works, all that extra food will help eliminate a significant problem for society. And given that the hornets can fight back, if it doesn't work, it will help eliminate a significant problem for society :D James

    A New Asian Hornet Problem

I don't believe so. Even the BBC News website is quite poor these days. James

Strap everything down -- it might get a bit bumpy

And yet my wife said to me just now: "I want to go into Taunton to Sainsbury's" "Not in this weather you aren't" "But they have wine on sale!" James

Strap everything down -- it might get a bit bumpy

It is quite scary. Not too much damage here that I can see so far, fortunately. A couple of stacks of kit toppled over and a plastic window has been sucked out of the bee shed. Some odds and ends blown around the garden. The most worrying thing is that the wind is trying to peel some of the...

Strap everything down -- it might get a bit bumpy

Ironically, the local town wind band has had to cancel tomorrow morning's performance in the town square due to an excess of, err, wind :D James

Strap everything down -- it might get a bit bumpy

I didn't get one. Perhaps I managed to turn it off somehow. James

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I'll just discuss it with the landowner and we'll sort it out between us. We have a very easy-going setup. James

    Wasps nightmare

Yes, I saw a worker wasp today in my apiary. And a queen that had decided inside a loop of hive strap was a good place to hole up for the Winter. James

Selling price 8oz jar of honey?

There's a set of information that has to be visible "in the same field of view", but I don't believe there's an requirement on what that field of view should be. So you could have very little on the front as long as all the legally-required stuff was on the back. James

Anybody for Christmas avatars? Go on!

You can barely tell the difference, can you? I'll give a clue: I've taken my glasses off. James

    A New Asian Hornet Problem

Surely vegans wouldn't be able to eat hornet? I'm sure there'd be some decent size joints to be had from the thorax though, albeit a little tough. James

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Did a tour this morning to make sure everything looked safe. Took away bits of kit that didn't need to be out in the apiaries on the grounds that if it isn't there then it can't get blown about. Found a group of fallen elder trees in one apiary, but fortunately no damage done other than to the...

Strap everything down -- it might get a bit bumpy

Oooh. We now have a red wind warning issued about twenty minutes ago for west Wales and the coastal area of Somerset and Devon along the Severn Estuary. James

Strap everything down -- it might get a bit bumpy

The rain seems to have slowed here for the moment, but the wind hasn't. I reckon the power line engineers are in for a tough few days. We've had a couple of outages since 5:30pm and there are two areas to the north and west of us that have been without electricity for well over six hours now...
