    Cheeky Buggers!

Good, I'm glad to hear it, or that would have flown in the face of BBKA policy. Do take it up with your division/association, as people cannot assume consent.

Plenty of forage round there. Were you in No.1 for your fish supper? Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk

When will my Bees swarm ?

Have you done a course, yet, JC47? If not, I recommend you get on one ASAP as you will learn a lot and be shown how to handle and manipulate the bees/frames. There are a lot of factors to consider when bees may swarm and it isn't whether they will swarm, but when.

    Greetings from Norfolk

Welcome, Dave. You can be the new Dishmop (RIP). Whereabouts are you? I am often up in Cromer at my old man's place.

    Cheeky Buggers!

We use the Sue Ryder scheme and have raised a surprising amount extra as a result of the sales.

    Cheeky Buggers!

If you are a member via a division of an association, I believe they should not have claimed your Gift Aid. I'd be interested in knowing more once you get the details settled.

    Cheeky Buggers!

It's quite clear that the donor must give permission for them to be able to collect Gift Aid. https://www.gov.uk/claim-gift-aid/overview

    Cheeky Buggers!

    No, of course not.

    Cheeky Buggers!

Yes, I do the same for my association, not BBKA, but BBKA doesn't know that they can claim it as they cannot possibly know the tax status of birdsandbees.

    Cheeky Buggers!

You must be a direct member, birdsandbees, as BBKA has been collecting Gift Aid from direct members for the past year, apparently. If this is not the case, please get in touch via DM. YOu should take it up with them if you did not do that. I've had cause to get people to correct records...

    Anyone in the chigwell area?

I'm in Seven Kings, but are you not a member of Epping Forest branch of EBKA? Drop me a line.

More individual BKA joining the BBKA direct - good or bad?

Not so, Simon. Certainly in our case, we provide the kind of support that individual members will never get from the BBKA directly. It cannot cope with the demands of administration for dealing with counties, so how would it hope to service a direct membership in the tens of thousands? It...

    Warré hives

Ah, but Finman, I want to harvest their wax untainted by foundation for making cosmetics. These hives would have that specific purpose, rather than providing honey alone.

    liquefying set honey

I always used to use my oven set low, but it;s a small oven and since they changed the bucket size, they're slightly too tall. Now I generally use my Burco boiler which I warm up and then set at between 1 and 2 which makes the water around 40ºC. Takes several hours, and needs regular stirring...

    Cat attacking our hives

You can't shoot cats because they are on your land, because they are not classed as vermin. There is already a relaxation in the laws of the road because cats are free to roam, so that if you knock one down, you are not obliged to stop to try and find the owner. Many people do allow their...

    BBKA: one member one vote?

Many gather views from their divisional representatives who feed these in at county level for discussion and decisions. Some have complained to me before that they haven't been asked specifically, but then when I asked them when they last attended a meeting, they admitted they never go. I...

    Cat attacking our hives

We had a fox terrier when I was a kid who would spend hours going for wasps on a cotoneaster bush. She would get stung of course, but she was also quick and would have dozens of neatly incised wasps around once she tired of the sport.

    BBKA: one member one vote?

Quite right. And given the option, I doubt few would wish to have any further contact with the organisation, deferring – as they do now –-to their local groups.
