    Convincing a sceptic on honey

An Asian owner of a shop I frequent on a weekly basis, is adamant that all 'honey' contains sugar syrup ! I have given him a jar of my own to try, which he agreed tasted lovely, but how much sugar syrup did I add ? There appears to be a mindset (from beekeeping practises back in Pakistan) that...

    Where to buy sugar from

Costco - 5kg bag was 2.49 each, or tray of 15 1kg bags for 6.89 (=46p per kg)

How much time have the bee's got left to draw comb

If it's a strong 6 frame nuc ie 5 of bias and in need of hiving then they'll have no bother drawing 5 frames of foundation by the end of september

    Chinese blended honey

Is it legal to sell honey labelled as 'Chinese blended' in the UK ? Yesterday I popped into a local garden centre I supply, and next to my local stuff were jars that specifically stated this on the rear label I thought all Chinese imports had been banned

    Electric extractor recommendation

Keep your eye on Ebay for beeks giving up after harvest ? I picked up a 10 frame Taylors of Welwyn ss electric off a downsizing beek 2 years ago for £350 - runs like a dream compared to whirling your arm off all summer :winner1st:

    Hop flour treatment

Better off using it as a mulch round your veg or drying it and using it in your smoker

    Comb foundation

I find the comb drawn from starter strips to be thinner and more palatable than even thin foundation So I cut narrow starter strips from a sheet of thin unwired foundation Alternate 3 or 4 strips frames in between drawn comb in your super to keep them straight Works best on a strong colony If...

Is it worth giving them to someone from your Association who has nationals and let them combine ?

    The Big Move!

Once you are on the roof you could lengthen the ladder and reduce its pitch, run a scaffold board up the rungs and slide the hive down the board, taking the weight from the roof on a rope ?

    Colonies that don't swarm

I know that weather conditions and space to lay play a major role in whether a colony swarms, but genetics plays a part too I have attempted over the years to try to not keep queens from swarmy bees, trying to raise queens from splits/ss/grafting So far this year only one (out of 12)...

    Beeswax food wraps

Does anyone make these to sell ? We've got a stall at a local fair coming up, plenty of honey ready to go We've 2 years worth of wax blocks sitting in the garage, and my missus just suggested using some up with some 'fat quarters' she'd got left over from a quilting project to make wax wraps...

    capturing the queen then

I now constantly carry a Turn and Mark cage in the left breast pocket of my suit If I spot HM and need her for anything, I can lay the frame on the bb and have the cage and its plunger out and ready without taking my eyes off HM - Enrico's right, you'll lose her if you look away !
