What did you do in the Apiary today?

Made up some syrup and fed the girls. (Didn't want to be too long as diggers just at the back of the hive and didn't want to disrupt the bees too much!)

Why say NO to doing a course?

We (my husband & I) did a course run by a not-so-local BKA before getting our bees. It happened that before we got them we also went to a couple of the local(ish) BKA group meets (more by chance than on purpose). We had tried, however, to get onto a reasonably priced course that wasn't too far...

    Drought. what drought??

Anyone wanting rain can have some from here if they want it! Needed to check on my hive and have had nothing but rain, rain and more rain. The 20 minutes of sunshine we did have yesterday I was 30 miles away in a meeting!

    Couldn't resist

Yet another hobby is spinning, so I can confirm that you can happily spin with dog hair. I never had it that the yarn smelt of dog afterwards (and the dog it was from STANK when wet :ack2:) but that may be to do with cleaning it properly. Just a warning though, pure dog hair yarn is extremely...

    Lost the queen

Hi Susan, Just to add, I know of a couple of hives at our local apiary where they know the queen is there (she's marked) but she seems to have gone off lay for the last couple of weeks (the more experienced beeks put it down to the strange weather this year, with the recent rubbish weather...

    Newbees don't panic!

:iagree: only just starting (picked up the nuc on Saturday) desparately trying to hope I haven't just done this all too soon (despite reading about it all for 10 years and doing beginner course and being member of local(ish) group)!

Top Bar Hive - Comb started across bars

There was some mention on another forum that a very experienced TBH beekeeping had one of his hives build cross comb & the only thing he could think of was magnetic field (they happened to build it the same way that other nearby hives built their comb, despite the hive being oriented differently)

    Nuc Wanted in West Mids/Staffs/Worcs

Hi, I live near Dudley, so can collect from Staffs, Worcs & W Mids areas easily. Unconcerned about frames (& would just as happily take a package of bees & queen). Thanks
