    Combining nuc with hive

I've got a swarm I collected about three weeks ago, currently in a 5 frame nuc. They have a queen. Seen her. She looks good, though not laying yet, but comb drawn out on three frames. I have a hive with a small, weak colony - with no brood, and on last inspection couldn't see a queen...

    Aggressive bees

Thanks all. I have inspected regularly. When I said the queen was laying 'badly' - I meant the pattern was poor and there was a high level of drone brood. Then, about four weeks ago - no more eggs and a single queen cell. As I say - I hoped supersedure might sort it out - but this would have...

    Aggressive bees

Buckfast queen from reputable source last august - not a cross, as far as I know. We are members of the BBKA - so have insurance. Am a member of South Staffs and have good friends to advise there, but they're a bit far away and I'm actually closer to North Staffs. Need to get plugged into...

She must have emerged during the cold weather and had a poor mating flight. About a month ago I spotted...

    What did I do wrong?

bees will be bees Hi Mandy I've had a similar thing happen. I'm a newbeek and got my first nuc quite late in the season last year. They were a strong colony, but I soon spotted that they were queenless. I re-queened successfully, but they went into the winter without much in the way of stores...

    sluggish clumps of bees

I'm a new beekeeper with a small colony from a nuc collected in mid July. I've noticed small clumps of very sluggish bees on the ground around the hive. Is this normal for the time of year? Has anyone seen this before?
