    Hi Torq Been really thinking about your project and having a go myself. Now for the really "stupid" question could I use a new B + Q water butt, as I have one surplus, for the vessel? I assume plastic is plastic when for own use or will it taint taste of honey?

    I was told to try dusting with Icing sugar as an interim to treating with Apivar when supers have been removed. I am a novice but appreciate this does not impact on varroa in sealed brood, (my wife has not yet noticed lack of said sugar in kitchen - YET!!).:eek:

    I have used an electric soldering iron to burn initials into hive parts. A bit slow but easy enough to do. Will have a look at this item though to see if it is possibly better.

    Thanks White Park Cattle. You have got me thinking that I could use my spare National Broon boxes as Honey supers and then run brood and a half using my National supers, (of which I have less). I appreciate weight issues but does appear a sensible use of existing kit. Or am I missing the point?

    Follow Hedgerow Pete I recovered 22lbs of wax by using Hedgerow Pete's simple method:- Pair of tights filled with old wax from frames, laregest saucepan you can find, (and do not want to use in the house again!!). Put tights into pan, weigh down with brick, add a few squirts of lemon/lime juice...
