Late swarm... Just when I thought it was safe to go back in the water

Hi from Italy... So last weekend I removed a couple of supers with a small amount of honey in order to be able to treat for Varroa... I added some 1:1 sugar syrup and cleared them back up. Ross morning they swarmed and all left. What the f...? Any ideas why? Thanks

    Donating a nuc

Yes I think the temps are probably higher and the warm season longer but profile about the same with July being the hottest but also extended into August. Thanks

    Donating a nuc

Hopefully swarm season is behind us for this year. I guess my real question is if it is too late to expect a new queen to emerge and mate in July or not...

    Donating a nuc

Good morning to all from Italy 😊. My next door neighbour has been helping me with my bees for a while now and has decided to start keeping bees himself. I would like to get him started by donating a few frames and a queen to him. I have a couple of strong families but would like to know what...

    1st Split Attempt

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes I could do that but only having one hive to begin with I was really keen to split them this year. Need to end up with a couple of hives going into winter...

    1st Split Attempt

Good morning from Italy again😊. Well 3 weeks were up last Friday but it's been pouring rain here in the North for the last 10 days so got to them only this morning. Original hive is still bursting with bees but not as many as before so I think they did swarm in the end. The original queen is in...

    Black Pollen?? 🤔

Hi from Italy again. During the routine weekly inspection of my new nuc (old queen on 4 frames) I saw the queen and plenty of fresh brood. Some stores although I had to feed them as it's been raining non stop for the last 10 days here. I did notice however something I've never seen before. I...

    1st Split Attempt

While I'm waiting the 2/3 weeks for the new queen to start laying can I have a peek above the queen excluder or will that disrupt them too? I think the first super is capped and is like to harvest it. Thanks 😊

    1st Split Attempt

Very clear advice. I will follow your suggestions. Thank you! The queen is in a full size hive with 4 frames and a wooden divider so can easily expand with extra frames.

    1st Split Attempt

Wow! Nice video. Thank you. That's exactly what they looked like today after their swarm like flight. They went pouring back into the hive!

    1st Split Attempt

I confirm... Really enjoyed myself today!! 😊😊. Shook off all bees into the BB (Hence the bee covered hive). I am 99% certain I got all the QCs. Triple checked all frames. She is a super queen and has already filled the 4 frame Nuc I put her in with fresh new brood! The bees from the queenless...

    1st Split Attempt

Ok understood. So will they swarm do you think?

    1st Split Attempt

This afternoon they all came out at once. A massive cloud. Looks like swarming trials. after about 30 minutes they went back in. What happens if they swarm after all and I've destroyed all the queen cells?? See attached

    1st Split Attempt

Excellent document thank you! I dropped her in and within seconds they smothered her 💀 I'm afraid...

    1st Split Attempt

What about the other queens which seemed to have emerged (3)? Isn't that just inviting them to swarm? Thanks
