    Positioning of superseded cells

When I said proper beekeeper that was banter but let's say you have bees in your loft and they have as much room as they like and excluding varroa mite problems how large would you say that hive would grow? Am I artificially driving them to the limit or just adding space and correcting them? Or...

    Positioning of superseded cells

No I need to checkerboard in a brood box and suppress the urge to swarm hence regular checks on certain hives not them all. A few on here have said that contiuesly knocking down cells won't work they will eventually swarm regardless. I've never had that happen. But maybe I handle it in a...

    Positioning of superseded cells

I could have up to four broods yes. Depending on what I'm doing with the hive. If I don't split my hives two broods is definitely not enough space for the queen at peak laying. I could get away with three broods but if they ram nectar in during a flow I have to put another box on and...

    Bee stings

I'm 43 and been beekeeping six years. My tolerance has improved although I don't like being stung because it hurts. If I get stung on the hand or arm I'm fine it doesn't swell but I used to swell badly. It itches sometimes but others it doesn't. Seems to be depending on the location of the...

    Positioning of superseded cells

How why? In my opinion that's not true. Your not taking anything from them by opening a hive. My bees get on with it regardless. How can opening a hive set it back days? Not being funny but they don't stop gathering nectar or pollen and the heat is back to normal within minutes. I don't see the...

    Positioning of superseded cells

By expanding I mean expanding your apiarys as in more hives, makes sence not to restrict the queen at all because more brood means more bees. With a hive selected for honey I'd expand inbetween main flows by feeding continuously. keeping a continuous flow your bees will become a huge hive you...

    Heather 2021

Someone told me the critical month for the heather and rainfall was May and it rained the whole month of May here. Mine are pooing it in the hives on the good days

    Positioning of superseded cells

Migratory beekeeping. wildflower, borage, beans, rape, and now heather and ivy. And anything else I can get them on although this year all they got from the early rape is pollen it rained for the whole month. I had to feed them in the middle of acres of rape 😂 when it finally stopped raining...

    Positioning of superseded cells

Best thing to do is pick the biggest queen cell stick it inbetween capped brood and knock the rest down. Rehouse or squash the old queen then you have a supersedure cell. Make sure they build no more in the next week. If they are swarm cells and they get capped you won't have the old queen for...

    Positioning of superseded cells

Not really it sounds it but it's a few checks and a few litres of feed inbetween flows. Just keep her laying full capacity. Throw them some empty frames in too from time to time and donate them to splits to get them to use the syrup. Sounds complicated it really isn't.

    Positioning of superseded cells

Epanding bees need frames laying queens need frames. Let your queen lay lay and lay until the first flow then you have to deicide split or expand and make honey producer's. Honey producer's. Stop the queen a week before flow no more room but supers. Flow over let her lay under control...

    Positioning of superseded cells

I'll split her off as she's old and expect to lose her. Much better to split her off and have the strong hive. I'll unite the bulk with a first year queen. The old queen will have a poly nuc. I'd expect to split a strong colony at least three times a year if expanding. If I want honey I'd build...

    Positioning of superseded cells

Swarm season twice a week now I don't worry about it once a week max. If I see anything I'll inspect again and again until I'm satisfied 2 days apart. Now some hives I'd be happy to inspect a few weeks apart. Some are super strong and could swarm even now so once a week. I inspect hives based...

    Positioning of superseded cells

I Dont want them to swarm so I have the original queen I split them off regularly obviously. I have a queen six years old she is still laying good but expect to lose her this winter. She will get split off into a nuc and the hive united

    Positioning of superseded cells

None less than four years so far and reach peak laying 2nd 3rd year

    Positioning of superseded cells

From that apiary I pay close attention to it I want to know how long queens last. All my old queens I put there

    Positioning of superseded cells

I've got an apiary I've never let a hive swarm from or superseded. I've got queens five years old still laying strong. I usually lose a few hives in winter. Most get requeened in time
