    Should i add another BB?

Have also added a 2nd BB after removing the supers and it now is near fully drawn after 2 weeks & heavily populated from this year's colony. Also feeding 1to1 and they are insatiable. Very happy and be adding every evening. As a newbee should I stay happy?

Buy or make a bee escape?

I have a problem with a Crown Board with Porter escapes which I assume has been wrongly manufactured: It is not made so that it can sit flush on the Brood Frames. I.e. its impossible to use it without a gap between brood and super above. See photo attached from which shows that the top frames...

    Hive parts- useful or not?

Should have looked landing boards up as the apiarist gives the answer and with a Poly hive, I don't need one: Landing boards - The Apiarist

    Hive parts- useful or not?

Are there particular hive parts which are seen as essential or useful and what are they? Entrance adjusters? Metal Frame Runners? Plastic Landing Boards? Pollen Grids/ Entrances?

    Progress update/hive Inspection

Two questions on brood/super activity: 1. Brood has a lot of uncapped larvae relative to eggs /capped brood- any problem indicated? 2. All frames of a super drawn but not much nectar seen- time for another super or time to wait. Appreciate the bees know best so not too worried but just lack the...

A new colony and honey supers

Super flow here also. Got my bees on 12th June, added a super on the 30th June. BB has some sealed honey and super was bursting heavy so added another super this AM. Have only 2 supers all together so wondering if I need to rush and get a spare in case I need to add a 3rd super. Could that be...

    Summer inspections

Omitted brood inspection today. Have one super which was added to new colony on 30th June. All frames now drawn and 80% + have nectar but few have been capped. What is the thinking on this situation?

    Drawing supers

Can someone explain at what point does a 2nd brood box become the option/imperative rather than adding a super?

    Bees not hungry?

7&1/2 frames brood before super and now all frames with brood.

    Bees not hungry?

Got a smallish colony installed 6 weeks ago and all doing well with 70% full brood & super added and most frames with drawn comb. Fed them 1pint and they only used 1/2 of next pint so stopped. Am I correct?

    Just 1 Tree

They will grow much better out of the pots and plenty of time to get established. That my 2d worth.

    Just 1 Tree

The best position when planting out is an area which is roughly cultivated or at least not overgrown with grass so that its falling Autumn seeds find ground to grow on. Would recommend you get them out of the pots and into the ground now with some anti-slug protection if necessary.

    Just 1 Tree

Not a tree exactly but it is similar to a tree and I have never seen anything that attracts bees so much as echium pininana. It is a massive plant and great at reseeding itself so no problem in reproducing. https://www.gardenersworld.com/plants/echium-pininana/

Sorry, should have said I'm an outlier- i.e. I live in West Cork Ireland.

    Other apiary in proximity

1st colony newbee and not sure if there is another apiary within 3 miles of here. Its a possible future worry or not? Anyone?

    clover

I scarafied my lawn grass and sowed white dutch clover called Trifolium (mixed with lime) which is supposed to be for honey bees but so far have not seen much interest. Still early days.

    Rotating hive entrance

Just reorientated a hive 90* to face South East and did not appear to bother them at all.
