Best number of frames in brood box

Somewhere not so long ago I think I remember you said you used 11 slot castellation in BBs and only 10 or 9 in supers? So why dummy? Very little use for them unless in splits or whatever.

First time bee keeper from co.Down

Have you joined a BKA yet? If not do so promptly and then get along to any meetings and discuss issues. Don't necessarily need to join any course - if of a practical nature you can get clues by watching at apiary meeting with BKA or elsewhere and then consider courses which cost the earth.

    Beekeeping Association Equipment

Over 4 years ago, when I became aware of noises that BKAs were eligible to register as charities, and that dozens, including the one that I had recently resigned from (see later), were already in the process of doing so and could offer advice/help, I wrote to the then Secretary of my new/current...

freezing brood and super frames question

You could always stack them in the open air, possibly within big black bin bags, and let them freeze that way. Simple enough?

    Beekeeping Association Equipment

My BKA has pots of money sitting in the bank (over £14k at AGM before last with less than 100 members) which I try to get them to use for the benefit of the members - but the committee refuse and continue to add to the pile and tell me that they still believe they are working for the members...

    Which ones do you prefer

Thanks - I found an earlier purchase to be the stronger variety and so long I had to trim the ends too, though I actually opened up the box joints at either end on some to make them fit more securely. May phone Thornes to see if I can get the thicker version. Or wait for the 2022 Convention...

    Which ones do you prefer

I use castellations in all boxes but the latest Thornes are of such thin metal they bend/buckle out of shape. Not able to make my own. Any idea where to get better quality ones - 10 & 11 slots. Usually use Wynne Jones but his are usually Thornes anyway.
