    Eggs not hatching

Thanks She was raised using Cupkit, all the other queens (that survived mating flights) on 3 or 4 capped frames now.

    Eggs not hatching

Hi I've a newly raised queen, saw eggs first on 13 June. She's laying, not prolifically, but none of the eggs are hatching. She's laid up on two frames, about 1/4 of each side. Nearly all single eggs at the bottom of the cell, very occasionally 2 eggs I did spot a couple of larvae once, but...

    Advice for a (fairly) newbie!

Hi I'm just north of Leeds, LS21, so not too close, but you're welcome to a frame of eggs and young larvae if you can get over. Simon

Eggs in queen cups/cells in queen mother’s hive.

Update 9 out of 10 cells drawn successfully. 3 cells and 6 virgins placed in 3 frame mating nucs. On inspection today, 7 laying queens, 2 yet to lay, still time. Pleased so far, just need to make sure there are no DLQs in a week or so. How long do folks wait before moving Queens to their new...

    Angry bees!!!

I stand by what I said. There is evidence the bees were angrier than Susan has experienced in 10 years and she reacts badly to stings. We don't know what they'll be like next time, they may be pussycats, they may be the same. Whichever Susan can then decide what to do. Even if they're calm...

    Angry bees!!!

Based on your description of the bees, and your reaction to stings, I'd ignore this, for this colony. Longer term certainly worth trying nitriles, but this thread is about these bees. When I've had a colony like you describe I've happily worn two pairs of thick gloves. The advice from Polymath...

I would recommend Hoffman's in a Paynes poly. My plastic spacers were really too tight. Simon

    Queen cells and splitting

Hi I'd also double check the "old" hive, if you haven't, in case she's in there. Simon

Eggs in queen cups/cells in queen mother’s hive.

Thanks, yes, good idea. Means my newly made cloak board won't get used...but very pragmatic. Simon

Eggs in queen cups/cells in queen mother’s hive.

First attempt at managed queen raising started today. I’m using the Cupkit system. I inspected the chosen queen mother’s hive yesterday, all was well, and placed kit in the hive to get them used to it. Went back today to put the chosen queen mother in the cage to discover lots of queen...

    Spreading the brood nest

I think it is a question of proportion. I've several hives where the brood area is essentially full with no where to lay, sandwiched by stores. In this case I've moved an empty(ish), drawn frame, either to the edge of the brood nest or one frame in. Obviously depends on the number of bees, but...

    Beetight app for Android

Hi I have the same problem, but it does work on my laptop and an old tablet with an old version of android. I have contacted Matt (the developer) who is aware of the issue although warns it's not simple and may take some time to fix. Fingers crossed he does, but I've downloaded my inspection...

Could be time to break out the shorts...

The Mandarins are checking out the owl box, but so are a couple of Jackdaws, so there might be some squabbling.
