Best use of ply I would say is Nucs!! With the floor attached it is easier to seal the ends, a bit of filler and well painted and you have a box that will do a good job!

I have heard of it. There may be an excuse for it if for some reason you liked your honey really diluted or had bees in an area of poor forage. All the same I would not be an advocate and think those very lame excuses!

As above ply is OK but you have to seal the ends or it will delaminate. The best thing about ply is you can get a good supply for free if you keep your eyes open. Always ask permission if recycling, I have found people love the idea of wood they were dumping being used to make beehives!

There is a good "sticky" in the beginners section about starting have a look at that as well. Good luck either way I hope you can get an introduction this year even if it is from the apiary at your local association.

Welcome, If thinking of building your own, consider buying one or two of the boxes from one of the suppliers in kit form, this gives you some good templates!!

i deliver honey to a deli near me for a guy i work with. the shop sells at the same price he does but they get to make a pound per jar. just an example may give you an idea.

Thanks for the photos. So far I have only used pallet wood for floors stands and roofs, may have to consider making boxes as well. Although as you say boxes in the sales are so cheap, I may move to pallet wood for Nucs and see how that goes.

Yes they said the hive had swarmed earlier that week and then showed larva supposedly from the new queen! Maybe they requeened and didn't want to add that complication or maybe it ended up being cut for time and they lost continuity.
