Any scouts at your swarm trap?

I had two Payne's 6 Frame poly nucs sitting in my apiary. One frame of foundation and 5 frames with 1inch starter strips filling each box. Ply covering the vented floor. A few days of scouts and then a swarm moved in. 5 days of rain so I fed them after a day. It's been about 4 days now and they...

    Salvaging a weak split.

    I did. Thank you :)

    Salvaging a weak split.

    This is reassuring.

    Salvaging a weak split.

It's an abelo poly nuc. Solid with 6 vented areas.

    Salvaging a weak split.

I have a two frame split that I did about 4 days ago. Frame of stores with bees on. Frame of capped brood with bees on. Two frames of shook bees and of course the queen. This was in the same apiary so the entrance was stuff with grass for a day. The following day it tipped down so I'm sure no...

    Help needed from the experts

These gents may be worth a call, for advice if nothing else. Their Instagram is usually full of bee removals from hard to get to places.

Is there anything a hobbyist beekeeper can do about swarms?

Thank you for the link, it certainly is very informative. I meant the reintroduction element though.

...I killed the queen.... How to choose which queen cells to keep?

Thank you very much for the explanation ☺️

...I killed the queen.... How to choose which queen cells to keep?

Is there a reason why you leave an open one?

    Hello from Nottingham

I used scaffolding mesh (cheap from Amazon) to surround my hives 2m from the entrances. It's worked a charm and so far my bees haven't caused a problem for anyone. Their main flight path is up and away. Of course they do take time to exploit anything of value to them in my garden :)

    Introducing a caged queen

They are 100% queenless. I did a split from them about 10 days ago, removing their queen. Knocked down queen cells yesterday during my inspection. I added a queen in cage but messed up my timings slightly. They must killed her and obviously had larva just at the right age to make more emergency...

    Introducing a caged queen

On this subject. My queen will not arrive for another 3 days. What is the risk that in these few days the hive will develop a laying worker?

    Introducing a caged queen

So one of my hives is hopelessly queenless. It was the result of a split I did a few weeks ago. I am certain there are no queen cells and the bees do not have the means to make any. Can I safely remove the tab and let them eat through the fondant or do I need to leave it sealed for X amount of...

    Frame needing replacement

Thanks very much. I have, going on gut instinct, moved it towards the end of the brood box. Once it's empty of brood I'll just replace the whole frame.

    Frame needing replacement

I've got a frame of brood that's become a little unstable. I think it had stores in it and during an inspection the comb seemed to come away, at both sides, from the frame. If I was to hold it horizontally I'm sure the comb would fall out to the floor. What's the best way to replace this...

    Extractor questions.

    A Lyson or a Vevor?

    Extractor questions.

Aye sage advice there. I've been considering that as a big factor.

    Extractor questions.

I'm looking at honey extraction equipment and have a few questions that I'm sure the experienced members will be able to provide guidance on. I've narrowed down my search to two; a 12 frame manual radial extractor at £510 and a 20 frame electric radial extractor at £1315. My logic is mostly...

    The turkeys and the bees

My hives are 2-3 metres from my chickens. No drama so far. I've seen others have hives within a chicken enclosure but no idea the results.
